4520 with RD990 finish mower

Every year I roll the my large lawn areas with a 2 ton roller. Since doing that for years, I can mow at 7mph in some areas and others flatter areas I can mow up to 11mph and the cut still looks fine. Remember that the blade tip speed is 17900fpm on the Woods PRD8400, so that is almost the same blade tip speed as my Scag tiger cat(18000fpm) that I mow at 10mph. I normally mow in C range with my JD4520 with the economy PTO mode on.

Where did you find a lawn roller big enough to cover the width of a 4520? The only ones I have found are 4 footer designed for riding lawn mowers.

Yeah, this roller is a monster. A big landscaping/construction company built these rollers. They use to connect two of these rollers together to roll new airport runways. When the company went out of business, my dad bought one of these rollers to roll our lawn with it; we had that roller since the later 80s/early 90s. If that roller ever breaks, I would buy one down the street from a guy who builds them. The company is call General Welding and Fabricating Inc. in Elma, NY/Buffalo, NY - http://www.gwfab.com/products.php?id=5&pid=29. He sells big lawn rollers up to 72", but he will custom build the rollers like the 84" roller I have.

That PRD8400 is a nice mower! I got one when I bought my Deere 4400 (30 PTO HP). If my tractor can run it, a 4520 will have no problems whatsoever.
It takes less HP to run a finishing mower then a rotary cutter, BTW.

I sold the PRD8400 for two reasons:
a) it was too wide for my uneven lawn (spanned the lower areas too much)
b) it was too wide for my garage door.
Great mower if you have the lawn to justify it. I replaced the 8400 with another Woods 72" RFM (made by Woods, sold by Frontier).
