There is a thread somewhere on TBN where guys were discussing this generically. On some engines where a turbo is added, there are many changes, like compression and even piston cooling. On some models, basically a turbo is bolted on. If a person were to do this, a pyrometer would be a must have, melting down the pistons would be a bad thing. Of course an intercooler would help with that.....
I have a good friend with a 1964 Valiant Slant six. It is now fuel injected and supercharged, with an intercooler. Plus a 5-speed. With all the effort, he probably should have stood the engine upright and got rid of the slant as well.
