Will M146888 F/R shaft transaxle seal work on a 455? A video says it will work on 445 & 455 but another video says that CH17653 is the correct seal for a 455.

Thanks,
JPC

Deere had a great parts break down website. I would suggest searching that site by your model and or serial number.

If I read it right, the CH17653 part number goes with the two packing seals key #18

Just installed the CH17653 packing kit in a customers 445 just this week.. Not a bad job but can be tedious if you try to install them while the transmission is still in the mower. Hard to reach the snap ring to remove it before using a pick to pull out the 2 o rings. I have done probably half a dozen over the last 20+ years on the 445 and 455 mowers.

Did you remove the frame or do it still in the frame?

I do them in the frame. But you will need extended handle snap ring pliers with 90 degree ends to remove the snap ring after removing the bolt from the actuator rod which can be accessed through a hole in the frame.

Just don't feel like removing the seat, rear fenders, fuel tank, hydraulic lines, and drive shaft to get the hydro out of the frame.

Any recommended place to get extended snap ring pliers?

I have a set of gear wrench extended snap ring pliers but have used the standard length one with 90 degree tips, Inserted up from in front of the transmission between the transmission and the frame. Standard length pliers will basically be totally behind the frame with only the end of the handles slightly peeking out from end of the frame. Just makes holding the tips in the snap ring holes and trying to squeeze the handles to get the snap ring off complicated
