Just got back from my neighbor's place. He has a 4310 and a 4610 over there on demo, both with loaders. The 4310 has 120 hours on it,the 4610 has 11 hours. The 4610 really has one heck of a hydro scream, where the 4310 does not. I'm talking like at over 500 feet you can not hear the engine, but you can still hear the hydro. Is this normal? Will it get quieter with more hours? I was very impressed with the 4610 except for the noise of the hydro, and the thiness of the bucket!!

Did you check the level of hydraulic fluid?

I noticed when going down steep hills mine makes more noise, it sounds sort of like a car low on power steering fluid. I'm guessing it is because of the level of fluid.

I'm not familiar with a hydrostatic doing that. My Kubota made a light whinning noise when in high gear and starting out. That is probably about the greatest load to it since you are starting at 0 MPH and can expect to alsmost 18 MPH at top speed.

Hydo scream is not normal. My 4400 had it when new. When it was in for regular service I complained. It came back with no scream. Sorry I did not ask them what they did but with 11 hours its a warranty issue.

My 4710 has the same hydro scream. I questioned my dealer on this and they told me this was normal for eHydro during the break-in period. I now have 52 hours on the tractor. It still screams periodically and intermittently...not as bad though as when it came in new. I'm told in time this will completely dissipate. So far I'm not concerned. Will question the dealer again on this when he comes over in the next week or two to do the 50 hour servicing.

I went back down and checked the tractor this morning before it went back. The fluid was full. So I emailed my friend in Moline. He got back to me with the fix. There is a DTAC out for a new poppet in the charge relief valve.

Solution Number: 54621

Doc ID: LV54621
Solution Summary: Squealing noise in the hydraulics at startup
Publication Date: Dec 16 2002

Complaint or Symptom:

Squealing noise in the hydraulics at startup. The noise will go away if the engine speed is increased.

Problem or Situation:
There is a squealing noise in the hydraulics at start up and the noise is coming from the charge relief valve on the hydrostatic transmission.

Solution:

Replace the poppet on the charge relief valve.

Remove the MFWD drive shaft to gain access to hole on the bottom of the transmission. Once the drive shaft is removed there is enough clearance to insert arm through the hole to align a 1" socket over the charge relief valve. Using a 1" socket, remove the charge relief valve. Once the valve is out of the transmission, remove the original poppet and discard. Install the new poppet and reinstall the charge relief valve.
Parts:
Poppet - LVU14595
Tools:
1" socket - 3/8
Ratchet - 3/8 with a 90 degree bend

My JD dealer was out at the house yesterday to address some minor warranty work on my 4710 and to do the 50 hour servicing. He replaced the poppet on the charge relief valve since this was covered under warranty. So far so good as the hydro whine has stopped. It may have stopped in time anyway but this brought an immediate remedy to this annoying sound.

If any of you out there have this problem on your new larger frame 4x10 series hydro tractors, ask your dealer to replace this poppet. If the tractor is under warranty, it should be done at no cost to you.
