When operating my 47 Hoe and using the stabilizers for support, I find that I constantly have to pressure down the stabilizers with the levers because they lose pressure. No, they are not sinking into the soil, they just lose pressure. Once I set them, on probably my 6th scoop, I find the tractor starting to move & I have to move the levers. I also might add that the tractor has not been shut off during this which puzzles me even more. Does anyone know of a bulletin from Deere regarding this leak down while running complaint or has anyone had this same problem & found a solution ?? Your help is appreciated. Eric

Good morning

I have a 48 hoe and I use it extensively.

I will make a couple of comments and you can decide if they are of any help to you.
When I set my downriggers, I always try to raise the rear wheels off the ground. This appears to me to give me the most stability. However, having said that, if I really wanted to, I can still make the tractor move forward or backward for that matter. I think that it is a function of how hard you either push or pull on the bucket or the dipperstick. It would appear to me that the two cylinders on the hoe have more force that the down pressure on the downriggers.
In closing, there might be a better way to test for leakdown of the outriggers. On my hoe, if I leave the outriggers in the up position and shut the tractor off, they will leak down about three inches in a week.

I have a #48 hoe and it leaks down also, about an 1" in 15-mins. when in use and as the above poster stated about 3" in a week when not in use.

Thanks for reply. You are correct that the hoe has more power therefore will pull the tractor backwards if too big a bite is taken. I just don't think that I should have leakdown with the engine running, my pet peave I guess. I have enough power to lift the wheels off providing the bucket is not down so power is not my complaint, it's the leakdown. JD techs have not been any help although they have had good intentions. Just thought that maybe someone has had this problem & found a solution or fix for it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If the cylinders are not damaged internally, installing check valves on the cylinders should hold them at any position one desires. Just like a hydraulic top link valve. This is how the full size TLB's do it. A good parts man at a hydraulic shop should be able to come with somthing.

Edit: the valves could be the culpret...
