has anyone changed the (2) allen bolts to #8 bolts to allow for easier maint. and positioning of the 2nd stage auger on the rotating shaft

My allens were always coming loose

I switched to #8 bolts and lock washers for this season

We've used locktite there before.
we have also used some 1' split
locking collars to prevent the auger
from sliding forward and interfering with
the housing.
i would think they would redesign that,
or at least put the set screw on the key.

we have made impressions in the shaft for
the set screws also.

what did you use to indent the shafts???
i plan to disassemble the unit next spring and send it out for power coat
overall not bad from a unit i purchased in 1993

I think we just ground down a little
bit of a flat spot, that the set screw
could bite better, and it gave it a lip
that it couldn't slide forward so easy

Are you guys talking about the set screws in this pic?
Or are you talking about the other end of the shaft with the impeller on it?
You can see in this pic that one of the set screws is on the key, but the screws have square heads.
I'll have to check the front end on mine.

I'm referring to the allen screws in front of
the Impellar, they have a tendency to come
loose and let the impellar slide forward on the
shaft.

correct the set screws on the front
what year is the unit in the pic?
as the square head bolts could be an answer

Thanks guys.
I posted in another thread about the gear in the pic moving on the shaft. Since the gear on the rear of the shaft shifted, I need to check the set screws in the front.
