4700 Leaking Oil from front of motor

Sorry, I meant to say hours, not miles. Interesting about the 40 miles = 1 hour. Never thought about that.

I have always been amazed with the instantaneous starting of these engines. The old Ford 1910 took forever to get started, and only after a good 10-15 seconds of running the glow plug, even in the summer time.

I got the Tractor torn down and the pully and seal out, but I did notice two grooves on the pully where the seal was riding. Do I need to replace the pully? very pricey...:(

Bummer.
I'd say it is a gamble that the new seal will stop the leak.
But you can weigh the odds of that happening against the work to attack the seal again in the future if it doesn't seal.
I'd consider going to a machinist and seeing if it can be turned smooth as well as seeing if the new seal will still work (or if a different seal can be found to fit a newly machined diameter).
Decisions, decisions.

Take the new seal with you on a trip to the auto parts store. tell them what you are doing and ask for a speedy sleeve. Not sure of the real name but it is a sleeve to press fit over the crank shaft to even out the seal groove. I have had good luck with them on chevy harmonic balancers.

Well I got the new seal in and reinstalled all the other parts of the tractor. As it turns out it is not as big of a job as I was thinking.
You have to remove the sides, front, Radiator, oil cooler, battery, some hoses and fan belt.
I did not remove the timing belt cover and thinking about it now that is the only way to get the seal square to the shaft. The timing cover does not have a stop for the seal, so you could push it in too far.
But that would have been a bigger job.
I think if I would of have had the seal the job would of only taken about 4 hours. Pulling the pulley off the shaft was the hardest part of the whole job; you will need a pulley puller. I used a little two arm bar puller.
The wear on the pulley was not too bad after I got it cleaned up. But I think the idea of using the Speedy-Sleeve is a great idea for the next time and I think there will be a next time with our dust we have here in AZ.

Hope this helps others with their tractors and thanks for all the input from you guys!!

Thanks for the update, and glad it went well for you.

Curious, what the painted " 48! " means under the radiator.
