Tractor
John Deere 4710 and 425
Hi
I have a 4710 JD compact tractor that I ran into a piece of wood and snapped the rod on the steering cylinder. I'm looking for information on it and having difficulty. I have the JD repair manual and have looked on JD's parts website but not enough info there. The manual says it is a non repairable cylinder but JD wants $800.00 and aftermarket wants $400.00 so I'm trying to see if it's possible to do it a little less expensive. The JD part number is LVA14158. I'm going to try and post some pictures with this and info from the parts site.

Note

I'm hoping the pictures are ok as this is the first time I've posted on this site.

There are two notches 180 degrees apart on the ring but they don't go very deep. It didn't seem to me deep enough for a wrench to hold on to and maybe there is some thought as to whether there is to much damage to it. I have looked at another post that had the same problem but needed more info also.

Thank You for all Help

Gary

Take it to a hydraulic repair shop ... They'll either be able to repair it or tell you who can.

$800 is a lot of labor time.:)

Welcome to TBN:)

A good hydraulic shop is your best option, the cap is welded on and would have to be removed in a lathe, then a new rod made, install new seals then re-weld. If you can find a replacement for $400, that is your best option.

A lot of people want to spend your money, but if you have the skills, or a welder, one can fab up a cyl you may find at Surplus Hyd and have a welder attach the swivel and pins for much less.

If you can't do this or do not want to, or don't have the time, then there is only one choice, and that is to bite the bullet.
