Complaint or Symptom:

Boom, dipperstick and stabilizer cylinders leak down during operation or transport.

Problem or Situation:

Since the tractors have an open center hydraulic system, some leakage is normal.

Solution:

Use the following information to determine if the leakage is normal or excessive. The dimensions given are the maximum amount of travel of the cylinder rod per minute;

Maximum lift cylinder drop rate from transport

Model 47 - .57 inch/minute

Model 48 - .36 inch/minute

Maximum stabilizer drop rate from transport

Model 47 - .34 inch/minute

Model 48 - .23 inch/minute

Maximum stabilizer retract rate from working position

Model 47 - .23 inch/minute

Model 48 - .15 inch/minute

Complaint or Symptom:

Dipperstick or Bucket cylinder rod is bent

Problem or Situation:

The operator hooked the bucket around a solid object and used the tractor to pull the object.
The circuit relief the dipperstick was installed in the bottom of the valve instead of the top.
Solution:

Explain to the operator that the backhoe is not designed for this operation.
Relocate the circuit relief to the top (Handle) end of the valve section.

Thanks for the input.

I believe that the hydraulic leakdown that I'm experiencing is within JD's parameters (though I don't necessarily consider it acceptable).

I need to look at the valve body to determine if I can swap the relief. Ideally, I'd like to add the same relief valve from the boom spool to the stick spool for an added measure of security. I don't want to revert to the JD control pattern if at all possible. I have a very hard time switching patterns, though I've spoken to several operators who can readily switch patterns with little or no difficulty. I guess I'm just not that ambidextrous.

I'm a little frustrated that JD doesn't recognize that customers' may have a desire to change the control pattern, and doesn't make it a little easier.

Say, that relief noise that was mentioned in the first post starting this thread is a problem known to Deere. Have your dealer check for a DTAC solution or call product support and ask about it. From what I have heard, a new relief valve for the hydro is available that kills that noise. Let us know how it turns out.
