I agree - service manual rocks. Not cheap, but very good.

Do you have the service manual?

Will have it next week, the JD dealership across the border in Quebec promised he'd have one for me when I'll go there to pick up a new seat switch and a new set of R4 front tires. I go over to Canada because my own dealership in Maine is further away, quite smaller, and not particularly pleasant to deal with. Unlike models sold in other countries the US and Canadian JD tractors are identical and use the same service manual and same parts.

I have not heard of the fuel gauge going out.

You're in luck, the fuel gauge issues have been discussed on this forum several times. Maybe the company that manufactures the cluster (not Deere) has finally fixed the problem. Fuel gauge inaccuracy on JD utility tractors is particularly annoying because the fuel tank configuration doesn't allow to visually gauge how much fuel you have left so operators with the gauge problem have to keep track of their hours in order to guesstimate fuel level and avoid running out. I end up filling up more often than I would otherwise which is time consuming and can be quite unpleasant in wintertime.

How old is it?

30 months old total but I only had it for the last 6 months. It had an even 600 hours when I bought it, 986 now as we didn't have a snowy winter this year by Maine standards: 68 inches which is half as much than usual in the mountainous area where I live. A normal winter would be about 600 hours over 4 months including self-maintenance, practically full-time.

Maybe it is still under warranty? The new ones have a longer warranty. Used to be 2 yr 2K hours, now it is 3 year 2K hour.

JD does not warranty used tractors but that's fine with me, I enjoy working on it. Really! :D

Absolutely, especially when used in conjunction with the model-specific parts catalog that's available online for free (for now) which has drawings and exploded views not included in the service manual. The documents complete each other.

Tractor forums are also immensely useful.

Ahh... come on! How the heck are we supposed to learn - without having the same pain-in-@ss experience as you??

That's what we do here... :D :D

Okay then. What happened is that there's several connectors behind the seat and instead of the seat switch I had jumpered the next one down the line by mistake. The jumpered switch was that of the air ride compressor and hydraulic diverter. It's upstream from the seat switch so it allowed bypassing it and starting the engine but overloaded the circuit up the line and blew the F11 fuse each time battery power was turned on. Fixed the issue by moving the jumper to the seat switch branch-off proper.

Seat switch itself appears fried and since accessing it requires not only removal of the seat (which I did) but also complete dismantling of the seat I decided to leave it at that for the moment, since tractor works fine without it. I guess I'll have to take the seat apart next Fall though, because my commercial snow removal license requires the equipment pass state inspection each year and they would likely notice the jumper job.

Glad to hear it is a simple fix though. I was hoping it would not be computer issues.

Well... that wasn't so bad; was it?

Kind of a good story/bad story. Good that it was an easy fix - bad that it won't be so easy a repair. (Tear down your air seat..) :( I think I'd miss that air seat this summer - wouldn't want to wait until fall!

Does anybody know if leaving the seat jumpered causes any issues? My uncle jumped the seat switch on his TC35 and it constantly ate batteries...apparently in an attempt to deter this practice they put the switch on an "always hot" circuit...so jumping the switch was essentially like leaving your lights on...Dealer informed him of this so a quick relay setup later, the seat switch was "properly" disabled...
Dunno how the Deere one works, but figured I'd bring it up so next time you go fire it up, it actually fires up...:D

I think the safety switch on the seat is figured out pretty well. I would leave it like the factory meant it.
