Guys, Getting the feel for my "new" 4720. Can't quite figure out the use or "benefit" of Load Match. The manual doesn't say a lot. This is one feature I don't have on my 3320.

Appreciate any thoughts.

I see no appreciable benefit from it on my 3720 either. Completely underwhelmed by the Motion-Match as well. Air conditioning works well though

What is supposed to do is lower ground speed (in any gear) and raise torque for more power. If you go full speed and flip the load match switch while driving you will feel it slow down. Not sure how much it really helps but that's what its supposed to do. I flip it on when I'm doing heavy work just because it's supposed to help but I don't really see much difference.

10-4 Greg-sometimes I do think "less" is "more"!

The JD110TLB is advertised with "Load Match" as well. There's no switch to either turn it on or off, however.

As CurlyDave explained to me - before I bought my 110 - it's a "governer"!

Remember the governer... from the olden year's of tractordom? Just before the engine stalls out; when working the machine hard - the governor will kick in and boost the engine throttle a hundred rpm or so and pull through a hard patch. Pull into a pile of sand, gravel and load the bucket up - wheels spin, loader hydraulics drag - engine bogs down; governer (LoadMatch) kicks in and the engine speeds up. Hopefully, enough that the engine doesn't just quit!

I have only noticed it mowing. Hit a real heavy thick patch with the MX6 going 6mph and the engine doesn't lug but the speed will drop down 1 or 2 mph then when you get through it speeds back up.

My small bit of knowledge and experience with it tells me that is a good definition of it. It is supposed to, under any circumstances, prevent you from stalling the engine. I reckon the old timer's Load Match was a quick foot to the clutch.

Thx Guys. I have in fact noticed the drop in travel speed when activated. I'll see what it does when doing loader work-better test will be the 7' Fisher-only thing missing is snow-last year at this time we were at 81". Bare ground today.

I take it the 3320 is not a hydro tractor? Load match is standard on all 3000-4000 20 series e-hydro's. Although the switch is no longer there on later model machines it is still a function of the e-hydro trans. It can be disabled on all machines if desired (even the 110tlb) I have the instructions some where if desired. Motion match had limited use's but did have it's place when a specific speed was required (ex, pto drive aerator would require a specific speed to maintain hole spacing). I agree with the governor/anti stall description of load match as mentioned above.

Call me a dummy. First I went to my manual. then I went to the barn. For sure the switch is there (its a 2005 by the way). I guess I never noticed any benefit/reaction to its use-and lump "load match", Motion Match etc into the same pot. And I have almost 900 hours on the machine-mostly mowing, snow plowing, loader work.

The Load Match switch was removed on the newer 4x20 tractors. My 2010 4320 does not have the rocker switch but my older 2007 4320 does. You can still toggle the Load Match function ON/OFF on the newer machines via the programming controls (ref the Operators Manual) and the factory default setting is ON.
Only time I notice much difference is when traveling up a steep grade in High range -- speed will decrease while engine rpm's change very little.

My 2011 4520 still has the rocker load match switch. Bought it new in August.

Hmmmm. Go to the John Deere link below and find the Operators Manual pertaining to your serial number (range) for 4x20 tractors in North America. The lower serial numbers are for older models and the higher serial numbers are for the later models but I do not know the years for each range. Also, notice each manual is for all 4x20 series for specific serial numbers. I can tell you my 2007 4320 tractor did have a Load Match switch on the console to the left of the steering wheel as pictured in OMLVU17927 Operators Manual. My 2010 4320 does not have the Load Match switch as shown in OMLVU19619 Operators Manual. In addition, my JD dealer told me the Load Match switch was discontinued on the later model 4x20 compacts.

Was the Load Match switch put back in on the very latest 2011 models and not shown in the Op Manuals? Is your new 4520 cab tractor an older model? What is the serial number?

Manual OMLVU17927 for 150101 - 650000 shows the Load Match rocker switch on the dash board on left side of steering wheel.

Manual OMLVU19619 for 650001 - current has no Load Match rocker switch.

Manual OMLVU24813 for 840001 - current has no Load Match switch.

You might not have tried using it hard enough yet to see the benefits. I find that if I'm rolling down the road towing a manure spreader or loaded hay wagon, then going up hill... Full rpm, full speed in high range that the rpm's will drop to about 2k then the tractor speed will slow down. The rpm's never drop below 2k but the speed will drop off to keep you at a higher rpm limit then if you didn't have it on. I find that using it with fel in loading situation you really have to be working the tractor hard to get the benefit. Usually with the 4x series you will find that you spin the tires before the load match will cut in.

On the 3020 and 4020 series, as mentioned by others, the intent of the LoadMatch is to act as a "governor". It's benefit though, as I understand it from conversations with my local JD rep, is that it prevents the engine from stalling while under load (and engine speed). This is especially important with a turbocharged engine, where the turbo can remain spinning long after the engine is stopped. Having the hot turbo spinning without sufficient oil lubrication due to the engine not running just isn't good for the turbo bearings. Going along with this idea suggests that the engine should be dropped to an idle and allowed to "cool down" a short while before shutting it down to maximize the life expectancy of the turbo.

The following is from the 4720 Operators Manual for later model tractors w/o the rocker switch.

Using LoadMatch (eHydro)

LoadMatch enables the operator to prevent the engine stalling during heavy load applications such as operating with a loader. This feature is turned on and off using the display mode switch

1. Turn key switch to ON position.

2. No error codes should be displayed. If any errors are displayed, activate the display mode switch (A) to acknowledge the error.

3. Press and hold the display mode switch (A) until the display reads 途ELEAS?

4. The last edited command will display, either Coast or Load.

5. If Load is not displayed, use left or right turn signals to select the Load command.

6. Activate the display mode switch (A) to edit the LoadMatch setting.

7. The LCD (B) will display the last setting for LoadMatch, either On or Off.

8. Activate the left or right turn signals (C) to turn LoadMatch On or Off.

9. When the desired setting is displayed, activate the display mode switch (A) to store the setting.

10. The LCD (B) will flash the entered command twice and then change to the normal mode.
