I will say loading the tires and having lots of weight really helps the performance of any tractor, and my 4520 seemed to respond well. Unless one is mowing where ground compaction is a real issue, I would weight the machine with as much as one can. The large frames have enough power to handle extra frame-based and wheel based weight and actually makes them more efficient. With regard to axle loads, bear in mind that the large frame use planetary set ups in the transaxle which indirectly lowers some axle loading and also prolongs tranny life. Weights on wheels are little extra v. the loads these components will see extraneously, so have at it.

Gentlemen, Thank you for taking the time to explain this to Chase and myself as well as others who may be lurking with a thirst for knowledge.

I havn't been on a farm tractor in almost 30 years and that was a good old reliable Johny Popper Model 60 with wide front end that we used for cutting and baling 40 acres of hay about 3 times a year so it really never got much of a workout like we did throwing and stacking the bales as kids.

My specialty is the 300 and 400 series JD garden tractors and old Cub Cadets but will be stepping up a notch slightly next year which is why I have stopped my lurking and started participating to learn as well as share my thoughts

Taking a look at pictures of steel weights between my last post and this one I now notice that many are tapered, which makes sense, thus keeping as much of the rotating mass as possible in the center which would lessen the impact I was leary of, yet provide the weight neccesary to lower the center of gravity of the tractor and with the weight spread to the ends it would make it more difficult for the tractor to pitch and yaw. The physics involved here make perfect sense.
