I am a tractor newbie and have a 4610 with a 48 backhoe. What's the trick for getting the backhoe alignment nailed down during attachment. I never seem to be able to get lined up so my L-pins go right in. Adjustments? Thoughts?

Thanks.

I have used this procure:

First, hook up the hoe following the manual.
then, connect its hydralics to the tractor and use the stabilzers to raise the hoe. .

There is an adjustment to the brass safety pawls which allows it to raise fully on its own, I haven't tried at yet.

quade,

The JD 48 backhoe can be a real pain hooking up, but after you do it a few times it will get easy. I think in time the job will be a breeze for you. One small tip is make sure you have the bucket in the right prosposition when taking the backhoe off. It will save you a much pain trying to hook it up.

Good Luck

That is the main thing. Make sure you can get your lifting arms to the BH hooks by positioning the bucket to get the proper approach.

I think somethings being lost in translation... If he is sliding in his LPins, then the backhoe is already on the lifting arms, just not going high enough. How does bucket position help that? Once the hoe is picked up by the arms, it already is in the right angle and the bucket is off the ground. What I understand the problem is that the holes for the pins are out of alignment...

Can you say whether the rockshaft is lifting high enough to line up the holes for the pins?
There is a high limit adjustment on your 3ph that limits how high the arms lift. If the adjustment wasn't checked upon installation, the arms may not be lifting high enough to get the pins in easily. It is an easy adjustment, I believe just a threaded rod on top of the transmission.
check into that and let us know

As Rockyridge mentioned, just use the stabilizers to lift the hoe to the correct height. I have never been able to do it with just the 3PH alone. It's so much easier with the stabilizers, I don't know why JD doesn't just tell you to use them in the manual. I use them for removing the pins also, just be sure the 3PH is raised fully before raising the stabilizers....

With that method, I can remove or attach the hoe in a minute or two...
