Backhoe 48 Backhoe hydraulic hoses question

   / 48 Backhoe hydraulic hoses question #11
adegiulio I've got the JD 46 backhoe and had searched as you are now for hose lenghts. I bumped onto pictures of the Bush Hog backhoe and realized Bush Hog must have made the 46 for John Deere. John Deere had a subframe added rather than the 3ph in the manual.

It's my opinion that my JD46 is the same as the Bush Hog 665H. They may well have made the JD 48 as well.

There are 4 models listed in the owners manual that you can download: MODELS 665H / 765H / 865H / 965H yours may well be one of the others listed.

I took the 665H information and searched Messicks web site for a hydro parts blowup and it listed all the individual parts including hose lengths and the end fittings.

Take a peek at the Bushhog site. If you don't see the manual send me a PM. I have a copy on my computer and will send it to you tonight when I return.

Hope that might help

Thanks for the info. I looked on their website, but they don't have information. I called Messicks and they are calling Bush Hog to find out, and will get back to me. I think it's easier to get the nuclear launch codes than the length of these hoses.

Wouldn't a tape measure solve your problem?

Measure the original hoses. Have Napa or a fleet & farm store make replacements to that length.

If you no longer have the originals, measure the hoses you have. Then with the hose disconnected, hold the hose about how long you think is good. Measure the excess and subtract that from your hose length, and have Napa make a hose to that length.

"I want this hose, but (6, 12, whatever) inches shorter."

Seems pretty easy?

Yeah, I don't have the originals. I know I can just make the ones I have shorter, but the originals had the perfect balance of length while not getting in the way when the backhoe is on. Sure I can just keep the trial and error method, but I'd prefer just doing it right once.

Thank you for the help. I followed your directions exactly, but the only specs I get are weight, price, and availability...

JDparts must not have everything up to date for specs. I have checked several loader hoses and found all the specs.

Sorry it did not have what you needed :(

Not sure what the differences are between a 48 BH and a 488 BH, but for the 488 parts lists the hoses at 65"

I use my power beyond for a couple of woodsplitters as well as my hoe so I've had a couple of "extension" hoses made up with the same QD's as the hoe and splitter. The short one is about 24" long with a male 90 deg on one end. The other is about 5' long with straight QD's.
There are times when the hoe has settled or the tractor isn't lined up when it really helps to be able to extend the hoses....
