Flail Mower 48-inch Mott blown cutter shaft bearing

Hello all,

New to the site, I'm revitalizing an old pioneer farm with
a JD850 4X Yanmar diesel, 24 HP, and a range of attachments. Just blew the right-side knife shaft bearing on my Mott 48-inch rear PTO mounted hammer knife mower, and I'm feeling almost as blue as the race it ejected, 'cause I don't know where to get another one, the whole bearing assembly that is. Alamo doesn't list a part number for my model.

Any suggestions from Mott owners?

You can obtain the bearings from flailmaster as long as the numbers on the bearing inner and outer races are still legible. You should also plan on changing the V-belts with the kevlar stranded belts from TSC or NAPA as well.They are very good belts which stand up to shock loading from flailmowers.

Please keep in mind that you should grease the bearings every 4 hours of continuous use or daily depending upon your seat time used.

You also need to check the rotor for any material that is wrapped around it and near the bearings as it will create heat sink and quickly melt grease in the bearings. Just be sure to have plenty of clean wash water and Fels Naptha handy to wash your hands and arms in case of poison ivy, oak or sumak. The blue nitrile gloves are also very handy to have when diigging around a lot of debris and chaff under a flail mower.
