Snow Blade 48" snow edge from Ratchet Rake

/ 48" snow edge from Ratchet Rake #11
Well, I just received my 48" snow edge and i'm quite disappointed in the effort put forth by Ratchet Rake on prep and packaging for shipment.

Already it's scratched, missing paint, and the plastic edge is chipped - and I haven't even taken it out of the box!

What a disappointing start to this $330 purchase!

I just sent them an email and I'll let everyone know how they respond.

Here's a picture of how it arrived.

I'm not disagreeing that perhaps a better covering system should be devised. When i got my tooth bar, it had no packaging on it at all. I believe the mentality is of what I call the "food plate" thinking. That is: the nicest the food will look is when it's on the plate just before you eat it. Compared to the aftermath, the food on the plate looks quite good even if the peas are in the corn.

That's the least amount of damage to anything I've ever seen. Consider yourself lucky, seriously. How much does it weigh? I've had refrigerators, file cabinets, and all kinds of things arrive damaged, badly, from all parts of the country, regardless of shipper, company selling the item, etc. That snow edge is near perfect, especially by today's standards, which is drop kick it at the factory, ship it damaged, drop and kick it some more on way to retail customer, then see if they'll accept it. I swear, I wish I could see items arrive in that condition.:confused3:

The word "fragile" means - drop this side down, sometimes doesn't it?

I repainted mi e to match the tractor anyway. I really have had a chance to use mine in the last 5 days . . about 8 hours use so far.

Can you take more pics? Maybe some close ups and get the straps and packing off of it. I can't see any issues.
I have a RatchetRake and they were one of the best and nicest people to buy from that I've dealt with. In fact, I sold the tractor that used the first RR and bought a smaller tractor and needed a smaller RR which I ordered. They told a man wanting to buy the bigger one about mine. He came by and bought it and we were all happy. I still have that second RR and have switched thru 6 or 7 different tractors and plan to use it on my Gehl 3640e skid steer. Won't sell my RR.

Fiziks, I know you were writing to someone else, but I also have a snow edge. It arrived with cardboard around the back bottom and front with strapping on 4 or 5 spots. Small Boards were under each clamp and the shipping address was on one of the boards. So the left side, right side, and top are fully exposed. No plastic wrap and the way to grab the shipment is by one or two of the clamp arms.

The unit is 77 pounds and the only flat surface is the bottom. So you can imagine that with it being heavy, unbalanced, and no way to stack them . . The ups or fed ex packers and drivers hwve a field day.

RR is a very nice operation. And they are growing. But it would not take expensive packaging to improve the shipping snd handling process. 2 inexpensive grab handles attached to two of the clamp arms would give much much better handling ability, prevent rolling/tipping of the item, and serve to protect the top from having items drop on it. It doesn't need to be boxed . . But it should come with a packing slip (which it did not). It should have some simple instructions with it (how to install and how to use and how to order refills). None of that was with it.

As of Jwnuary 7th I now have a new and confirmed appreciation for my Snow Edge for use on my concrete. As previously mentioned . . our 1st real snow of the year came Dec. 29th . . A foot plus driftd were 23 inches. And me uding my snow edge for the first time. It was not the roaring success I'd imagined . . But it also hadn't been my plan for deep snoe anyway. And the snow was not only bigger by amount but wet too. But my definite biggest problem was I didn't know hoe to get the "float" mode working on my fel despite several efforts.

After several days of clearing snow with edge on and off . . January 7th came with new knowledge of rngaging tbe float and 30 degree temps. Wow . . what a difference float makes with the snowedge. I could make good steady consistent contact with the surface . . . yet not catch on the concrete or worry about too much pressure between steel and concrete. Think of it as spreading room temperature butter on bread instead of just out of refrigerator. Its just as I originally envisioned. Still not the best for big snow but great on smaller snows and slush or melting or sensitive surfaces or non totally flat surfaces.
