49 super A

I gust got started rebuilding my super A. the engine was rusted tight. I got the crank out. It looks good Ialso got 3 of the 4 pistons outbut the back one is still stuck. I am having a problem getting the oil pump out. I got the 2 mounting bolts out but it is still tight. any help would be appreciated.

I haven't tried to remove the oil pump on my 1951 Super A. I'd try to tap on it with a plastic headed hammer to start with. Next I'd try to get a vice grip on it and see if it'll rotate. Maybe that will break it free. If it's rusted in tight, you'll probably have difficulty getting rust solvent (Kroil, PB Blaster, Mouse Milk, etc) to work. It took me the better part of 2 weeks of soaking to get a 3/8" bolt unstuck when I did a brake job last month on my 1945 Oliver 60 Row Crop.

My Super A is on the to-do list for restoration. Needs tranny work for sure (won't shift into first gear).

Engine advice: if it was rusted tight, looks like you're going to have to rebuild it completely. That's what I had to do on the 4-cyl Hercules engine in my 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor (engine wasn't stuck, but had zero compression on all cylinders). Parts $800, labor $800 (I had the work done in the shop and the engine reassembled to the short block configuration). The engine is on the run stand now (I like to run them first before reinstalling them in the tractor).
