I have a 4340 with 43hp and I use an 8 foot HD cutter.... My tractor runs the mower just fine.... but...... The mower is 2 foot wider than my tractor. I have found this to be a problem on uneven ground. The outside edges tend to dig into the ground.... Therefore I would not get a mower that is much wider than your tractor. A 6ft would have been a better choice for me..... I think this is more important than HP...

Not sure I agree with your last statement, but I do understand why you said it. In your case, you have a little more uneven ground around you then other folks. In my case, the width of the mower really doesn't matter, as long as I don't try to wiggle thru some trees with the tractor that a wider mower won't make. Everything I mow is on the level, so even if I run a batwing, or a ten foot wide mower, it doesn't matter. Seems the O/P might want to consider both reasons, if he has 40 acres to keep mowed.
