Buying Advice 4th & 5th SVC Options for 4720

   / 4th & 5th SVC Options for 4720 #11
I have the joystick control and the 4th and fifth on the 4720 cab tractor I just got and I like the set up quite a bit. One question I have had is for releasing the pressure on the thumb control for hooking up the hoses. That has been a hassle-two person job to see what I am doing wrong.
Might have to read the owners manual!

That can be an issue... best thing I've worked out is 1.) follow the sequence of steps in your operator's manual. 2.) when you shut the tractor down - with just the key on - turn the diverter on and work the joystick toggle - you can hear it "clump" between the 4th and 5th SCV's and it'll "clump" again when you toggle it on that individual SCV. 3.) park the tractor in the shade so as not to heat up any hoses or cylinders that are attached to the tractor. 4.) before startup when you know you're going to use the extra SCV's work thru the toggle sequence to release residule pressure in the lines. 5.) carry the correct size wrenches in your toolbox to break the QD on the hose end of the cylinders or implement and enough rags to catch the spill....

I have always been able to disconnect the lines to my boxblade scarifiers which use the rocker switch valve. If I had a problem with the pressure I would consider installing a high pressure bleeder valve rather than wrenching the hose connections all the time.

I'm to the same point...within the next week or so I'll most likely be purchasing 4th and 5th rear SCV's of some sort...either the "correct" Diverter kit, ORRRR I'll buy the new EH kit for the MY2011 units and make it work on my older 3520...Looking at JD Parts, it appears to me that the new 4th & 5th scv kit goes in the PB loop..if thats the case, worst case senario for me is I just need 2 custom lines (if the PB ports are different between the machines) if they're the same, a little custom wiring is all I need to do...
I've looked at the 2011 cabs and there is not much if any difference out back, so I'm guessing i'll just need to drill a few holes to match the 2011 style cab, which should be easy considering I'll just hit my dealer for measurements.

Disconnecting is never the problem... reconnecting can be!

It was suggested here on TBN by someone much wiser than I - to buy a set of quick disconnects and attach them to the male and female ends of the implement/cylinder hoses. They'd never build up pressure in the heat/sun and you'd never have to either 1.) rig up a high pressure bleeder valve or 2.) wrench on the couplers to relieve the pressure.

Of course, the open-ended QD couplers would also seep/leak and generally be a mess.

It's not very often that I have to "crack" one of the QD's - I can generally relieve the pressure via the diverter switch and toggling between front and rear and toggle up and down on the joystick rocker to relieve the particular SCV that is activated.

But... if the hoses are in the sun - well, even up here - it can be a problem.

This original thread is a bit dated now, but I have been hanging onto in until I am ready to add a 4th and 5th SCV to my open station 4520. I already have a 3rd SCV with a lever, not the electronic button.

If I have learned correctly, I will need both the Hydraulic Diverter Kit (part number LBV25511) and a set of rear couplers but I'm not sure what that may entail. My initial use is for a top and tilt kit and operation. Does anyone know if I purchase a TnT kit LBV25312, that will provide what I need for the 4th and 5th SCV?

Also I am not familiar with the newer electronic control, is this something I should consider and if so what are the pro's and con's of the electronic SCV?

Thanks

Gary, I have no idea what all the OEM stuff will end up costing you, but you should be able to do it all in aftermarket stuff for about $1200. ;)

Yep... you'll need a diverter - regardless if you go OEM or aftermarket. And, you'll need the QA couplers and hardlines and fittings. Unfortunately, after going on JDParts.com it appears that the top and tilt kit is just the cylinders and flex-lines and fitting's for attaching the 2 hyd cylinders. It does not include any components to configure the hydraulic system for the rear mount SCV's.

As mentioned by MtnViewRanch, it would be considerably less expensive to go with an aftermarket system versus a Deere OEM setup. I didn't price out the top n tilt kit on JDPart's but I'd guess that just the cost of the cylinder's and hoses, etc. from Deere would be well over $600.

For a OS machine, I would add a aftermarket 2 or 3 spool valve and TnT kit, all can be purchased from Brian. The JD diverter setup is very complicated, and very expensive.

Thanks guys, this information is very helpful. I think I will give Brian a call and check out the options.
