Thank you for posting that description! Repairing it sounds reasonably simple.On the YM186D you can replace the four wheel drive shifter without splitting the tractor.
In the picture that winston1 posted, you can see the large nut #3, unscrew it and the shift linkage all comes out except the block #10, which is on the shaft #8.
I vaguely remember a post long ago where he repaired the inner tip attached to that horizontal shift rod, or something like that, and he had accessed it from beneath the tractor.
You need to drain the transmission before taking that rod out, no?
