I have a 2006 DK40 with the manual shift 4wd. Push the lever down to engage the 4wd, pull the lever up to disengage. My problem is it has always been a little tough to disengage the 4wd but this time I used my tractor for about 8 hrs and I can not get the 4wd to disengage. I have tried different gears, speed, neutrals, reverse, forward and nothing seems to get it out. Any Ideas would be great.

Try rocking your DK40 back and forth several feet using the clutch and shuttle while pulling up on the FWD lever. It usually disengages.

Lift the front axel off of the ground with the F.E.L. It should easily shift out of 4 wheel drive. If it does not, then check your linkage. start pulling pins in the linkage to find out where it is binding at. I have had a few that were rusted up at the shaft that goes into the transmission. Some penetrating oil and a little working of the shift lever back and forth freed everything up.

Many times the issue is where the shifter shaft goes through the case. Just spray a little penetrating oil where the shift shaft goes throughthe case and work it free. Then spray the same area with a little white lithium.
