The post is about 2wd vs 4wd. I emphasized my perspective, and insults started arising, which brought forth critisim, and judgement. My point about a 2wd tractor is that, when you look at a picture, or painting of a farm, an old 2wd sets off a farm envirnment in my opinion. 2wd tractors are in my opinion good enough for the job, 4wd to me, turns it into something different, not so much a tractor anymore the way I see it, it has now become an 4wd farm machine, but the original tractor design has been altered in my opinion. To me the effect of plowing with a 2wd tractor is better, than that of a 4wd tractor.4wd sort of takes out the enjoyable factor of making a 2wd get the job done. I simply like a 2wd tractor better, 4wd is almost like training wheels on a bicycle..(if it is ballasted correctly) To me only a large scale operation, corporate, really benifit from 4wd, so to speak, because they can plow a large field quicker, for profits. A small scale farmer 20 acres, and less, tilled land that is, should be able to use a 2wd effectively no problem, if they are good enough..Not putting down 4wd tractor owners, just that I prefer a 2wd tractor.. Quicker does always mean better. I have seen fewer bottom plows, vs more bottom plows do a better plowing job if done carefulling using the same tractor. Sure, using a 3-4 bottom, vs a 1-2 bottom may get the job done, but sometimes it doesn't do as good of job. I would prefer a large single bottom on a 38hp tractor more so on a 2 bottom because I would have more control, and would likely create better furrows, this is not so say that done properly a 2 bottom won't acheive the same results, and on up the latter with more hp, and more plow bodies.. I don't think plowing in mud is a good thing to do anyways, unless you are planting rice, or something. Sometimes it is necessary but, if it is real muddy, you probably shouldn't be plowing anyways..
