Well, it's not a 4310, but it is in the same class. Someone I know has had a Massey Ferguson 1433 (PowerShift transmission) for about a year and a half. To me the diesel in that doesn't sound smooth. I wasn't the only one who noticed it either. I'll probably catch some flak over this but it was just an observation of mine. I think they are good machines. Haven't heard a 4310, though. I have heard a couple Boomers and those sounded smooth. One I know is a 4 cyl. though. Not sure about the other one (it is a Class III). The latter Boomer I heard sounded louder than the former Boomer. I wonder if it is the 3 cyl. A 4000 Ten series Deere drove by about a week or two ago. I think it might have been a 4610. It drove by with a tiller on the back. The diesel in that one sounded smooth. A relative has a Cub Cadet 7260. That has a 3 cyl. and that sounded pretty smooth.

Check out the heat at your feet. I bought a new 4310 in March. It blows 118 degree heat on my feet when I mow. JD won't do any thing about it.

I have a JD 990 which has a 4 cylinder Yanmar. When I first heard one at a dealer, I was stunned how smooth and quiet it was. Could have been a Lexus sitting there idling in comparison to other diesels I had heard. When mine was delivered, same thing. Smooth as silk. At least at first. I very soon noticed that as it warmed up, it got very noticeably louder and the typical "diesel knock" started showing itself. I realized that when cold, the combustion must be much "softer" than when hot. With my 990 there is a very pronounced difference in how it sounds and how loud it is as it warms up. I don't find it loud in an absolute sense and certainly not objectionable, but it definitely gets louder as it warms up.

When you are looking around, make sure to let the machines warm up for a while before judging the noise level.

Just something to keep in mind ...

Glad you made this post as a response.

I have a 4300, and am looking at a 4410, and have driven other brands of comparable size. Never once noticed 'extra' noise levels (and I am a noise 'freak' with anything loud, and wear ear plugs when mowing, but rarely when on the 4300).

Regards the title of your post: Coming from a Kubota owner, and making a 'statement' in the title (rather than asking the question), smacks of 'bashing' the Deere. I would NOT pose a question by using a statement about other mfg's of CUT's on this board, unless I wanted to stir things up. I hope others don't do this, as it makes for an unpleasant forum to exchange ideas, ask questions, and read helpful answers.

I hope this is taken in the spirit it was given - to help the forum. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think as a whole, there is only going to be a few db difference between any tractor. There are much more important things to consider.

The only reason I mentioned it was because it was said to me that the noise and vibration level on a 4310 in particular, was excessive. I just wanted to see what the general concensus was. I now have my answer.

Thanks, Jim

beenthere,

Good to hear about the noise levels when you tested a 4410. Hey, and now you know that a 4410 is not noticeably louder or rougher than most other CUTS in it's class....just in case you were wondering.

Regarding your comments: If you looked at the actual post, you would clearly see that the "statement" as you say, is not the actual question, as most everybody has seen. It's a subject, and part of wording a subject is to get people's attention.

It's unfortunate that you actually find a subject title "unpleasant" and you hope that "others don't do this". I'm seriously thinking about buying a Deere, so I'm not bashing. I was looking for helpful opinions and comments, which I got (for the most part).

Your comments are taken in the spirit that: If you had a major problem with my post you should have sent a PM. It's posts like yours that make for an unpleasant forum.

I am sorry about that (I don't have a major problem with it either /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), and didn't mean it that way. Others can learn from it though. A question mark at the end of the title i.e. "4x10's are noisy and have lots of engine vibration?" or "Are 4x10s noisy and have lots of engine vibration?" would have been more to your point and not taken as a statement the way I did (until I read your later post).

Some only have time to read the 'title's' and yours convey's a message, and its not what your apparent intention was initially.

Anyway, I don't want you to be upset over it, and certainly will PM such a comment in the future. Thanks for pointing it out to me. However, other readers don't learn from it with a PM, if there is anything to learn. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As a reader, I can only go by what you type. I have a problem getting my true feelings and the true spirit for which I mean things just with the typed words. No room for inflection to add to the conversation. Hopefully I haven't typed the wrong thing in here. I'll keep my fingers crossed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

hey, I think its a fun thread...

btw, peltor makes a cool headset called the alert. It is more than the worktunes, (~$150ish) but has adaptive noise reduction. They play radio, tune the engine noise way down and you can easily here ambient sounds ("Oh, No! you just ran over the cat!" and stuff like that...) I rely heavily on my hearing and they are a huge help.

I have NO problems with noise and vibration, and My MX6 is nice 'n' smooth after the initail BANG!! Maybe you got the wrong mower, Kyle my texican buddy... )</font>

Alright now, mine shakes only when the blade gets stuck at something less than where it belongs centripedally speaking. I really think they should put some anti-sieze or moly grease in the holes of the blades when installing. My next set will try this.
BTW, Rockyridge, you need to bring that MX6 down here, we will put it to the test. I need to see if I can hang it out over the pond and wheelie back up the hill. hahaha Then, I'll let you put it behind our 5420 and go play. (This would be worth the trip alone). Lastly, we could celebrate the day's cutting with some frosty beverages or blender drinks!!!
