Takes a **** of a lot more than that to make an engine "spotless".

Don't put that oil in anything that wasn't spec'ed from the factory for it, yes, newer fords spec if for their V8s, but that doesn't mean it will work well in an old Ford V8.

The only real good use for 5w20 is foreign cars or other things you don't give a crap about. It will produce more wear in most engines than a 30w will. The only reason this oil was ever invented was to make the EPA happy - not because it does anything good for your engine.

It is basically "watered down" oil. A few steps away from using WD-40 in your crankcase.

Or could it be the tolerances on these engines is much better than the other stuff being pushed on us? Funny how the ones using this oil did not need a handout. Maybe they know something the good old boys don't, or maybe its because they are producing a quality item?????

My '05 Ford truck is specified 5w-20, but Ford insists on at least semi-syn with full syn also recommended. I sense the synthetics and other additive packages strengthen that stuff pretty good at the molecule level.

The Motorcraft branded Ford oil is a Semi-Syn and sells cheaper than any other quality dino oil at my WalMart. Its hands down the best bargain in oil. I run it in my boat, GM car, ect. It sells for around $11 for a 5 QT jug when any other Semi-Syn is about $18.

If you have a diesel truck or tractor, dump it in the tank.... it will burn right up...

I believe it is straight Dino. Castrol... Of course I did not study the label and these days if you don't look close you will miss it.

Yeah.. Saddly I am thinking it might be headed for the tractor as fuel. Just hate to see it go.... Wonder if I mixed a quart of it in my 5 gallon oil reserve tank as a topper to the 10/40 if it would make a difference.

Thoughts?

Can't see it as bar oil, stuff would pour right out as thin as it is.

Just pass it on to a buddy that can use it. It makes now sense to put $2.50 of oil in a $5000 motor. What are you really saving? Give it away and the guy will owe you one. Trust me on this one. You will get paid back 10 times over for doing something like this.

I would not use it in my saw either. Sure it will not hurt anything but each oil has a job to do. That is why they make bar oil.

Actually a great idea chris. Except for the fact I am about the only mechanical person in my group of friends. No one I know changes their own oil, No one I know has a clue how something works. It is weird. What happened to those people in my life...

Sure, you can use it up. A quart blended with 4 other qts of your 10-30 or 10-40 would be just fine, especially in these cooler months upcoming.

Ditto on NOT burning it. Or, Craigslist it!! Sell it reasonably, it will be gone. Or donate to St Vincent, or local high school auto shop, or similar.

No. The tolerances in a Ford or Honda are no better than any other modern engine. And, even as high tolerance engines age, the tolerances aren't so high anymore...meaning the older your engine gets, the thicker your oil should be...regardless of what the factory says.

The fact that Ford didn't take money from the government is totally, 150% unrelated in any way.

5w20 is fine for ANY gas engine. Most diesels need xxw30 weight. Some are speced for xxw40 weight. Bought a spare quart of oil for my new 2010 VW TDI recently; it's speced for xxw40 above about 60 F. The parts guy handed me 5w30 Castrol as what they normally use for oil changes. 0w30 is what I use in my 4010 diesel and is what I was using in our old 1983 Benz, year round.

Most wear occurs in the valve train at startup. A lighter weight oil or 0wxx oil will provide almost instantaneous lube to those parts even at -40 F/C.

And it really works. We've run it in our E/F-250/350's (and any other vehicle than specs 5-20) for hundreds of thousands of miles with nary an issue. Probably the best oil bargain going!! ;)
