Gary Fowler: I in no way EXPECT any commercial ZT to cut 5 acres an hour in foot high wet grass, but my point is: Wildly exaggerating mowing capability by basing your advertising on optimal conditions that the vast majority of consumers will not experience is just plain HYPE and BS.

And, BTW...did anybody here actually base their equipment purchase choice for mowing on the "claimed" capability?

I did. Mowing 22-30 acres a week of mostly Bahia with a bit of clover is demanding. My Ferris dealer listened to my problems and sold me a product that meets the demand. 3100z 61" 36hp. In addition to a Procat 52" we knock down 8-9ac per hour combined, with the Ferris doing 60-75% of the total.

I think most folks realize that these advertising promises are under optimum conditions and not for normal lawns and fields.
Ever notice the tv ads that show cancer survivors claiming their success is due to the facility and then see in small print not expect the same results? Buyer beware.

Well look at it this way, if they wanted to, they could advertise a 10mph machine with a 72" deck at 7+ acres per hour. But they dont.

IMO, the 5 acres per hour or so, by figuring 80% efficiency, is a pretty good measure. If you have a big wide open country lawn, that is smooth, and you mow it weekly, there is no doubt in my mind that you could do better than what they claim.

I found a couple short videos to give you a better idea of the speed and maneuverability of a Hustler Super Z
I got one last fall and I'm still amazed how fast it can mow.
Many commercial grade zero turns can mow a similar speeds.
