5 foot cutter on 2410

JR,

I have the King Kutter 5' cutter for my B2410. It handles it without any problem. But haven't we been here before /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=buykubota&Number=94078&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=5%27%20King%20Kutter%20Kevin&Match=And&Searchpage=0&Limit=50&Old=allposts&Main=92493>Last Answer</A>

Yes , Knight, I did ask this question once before but it was buried in another thread I thought. Anyway, I was kinda hoping someone would know of a 54 inch. So, do you cut brush with it or just weeds and grass (mostly what I will do). How does the 2400 balance with it? does it "look" to large for the tractor? does the engine labor? Will I have to switch to synthetic oil?! When you pick it up does the tractor get light on the front? I will be using it with my MMM installed most times and with the FEL removed. That way I mow the field and then drop the cutter and mow the lawn with the MMM--that is the plan--while my wife and the BX luxuriates in the shade sipping margaritas while she details it. J

JR,
I have actually cleared out some pretty good brush. Mainly bushy willows which are fairly tough and hardy. It has never bogged the engine, but I am always very careful and take it pretty slow. The only time I had any grief, I backed the cutter into the bushes and took out a fairly good sized stone. There was a quick lull in the engine and it came right back. It actually split the stone into pieces.

I think it balances fine on the 2410 and looks good. My only complaint is that the style of the KK does not really allow it to be lifted very high so there is not a lot of clearance when getting to the work area. You can adjust the lift points on the lift arms, but I haven't done that as it doesn't really bother me.

Picking up the cutter does not noticeably lighten the front end...but I have always had the FEL on so far when I've used the cutter. When I remove the FEL and do what you are planning, that may change. Some suitcase weight on the front would do it.

I too looked for a 4 1/2' cutter but there were none to be found in our area.

If you are cutting grass, which is sounds like you are, and you are on reasonably flat ground, I'd go with a 5' mower without heasitation. After all, the belly mower is 60" (or does it go to 72"?).

As others have stated, hacking brush is another thing, but it doesn't sound like its a concern for you. The only other issue to me would be stability. I had a 2400 and used it on very steep and uneven pastures and would not have been comfortable with anything larger than the 4' I was using just becasue is was a lot of weight swinging around the back potentially making the tractor go where I didn't want it.

Got my B7500HSD last summer and one of the first chores I tackled was to do some `hoggin in my woods. I was cutting mostly underbrush, ya know the 2-4 foot weeds and stuff that grow in the base of the woods in the Midwest. Had a little honeysuckle thrown in for good measure, nothing over 3/4 inch. Rented a 5 foot bush hog with a slip clutch that had to be at least 15 years old from the local tool rental.

Bottom line - not a problem. The only time the tractor bogged down was at PTO startup and when I would happen to run over a good sized fallen tree limb (I'm talking about 2-3 inchers, here). I was moving kind of slow since I was running through the woods, going around trees, etc. For heavy grass cutting, I don't think you would have a problem. You might try to find a rental unit as I did before you buy just to be sure.

Hopes this helps

TresCrows,My brother runs a 5 ft. cutter behind his B2400 with no problems. He does use it mostly for cutting the same fields a few times a year, so he is not in the thick stuff too much. For just grass a 5 ft. cutter will be fine.
