5' or 6' king kutter rotary mower

Re: 5\' or 6\' king kutter rotary mower

(Local TSC has a 5' King Kutter rotary mower for $650 which is only $25 higher than the 4' model. The 6' model is $850. Why is the price difference so large between the 5' and 6'??)

The price difference seems to be consistent with other manufacture's price tables, the larger you go, the more expensive. I too was thinking about getting a rotary cutter from TSC. TSC has dropped the price, but I now see that the units are not as heavy duty as they were last year, and TSC's cutter line is now called Farm Force.

Last year I priced out a KK 72" brush cutter, it was $1200.00, and weighed 730 pounds. The new cutter is $879.00 but only weighs 580 pounds. They lost 150 pounds of metal somewhere. I would hate to spend the $ on this cutter and then have to replace it in a few years.

My tractor dealer has a 72" Befco for with slip clutch and shields for $1599, a 72" Woods Brush Bull with slip clutch and shields for $1549.00 or a Brush Hog SQ720 for $1479.00 with clutch and shields...time for some more reseach.

Re: 5\' or 6\' king kutter rotary mower

The TSC by me is still selling KK, I was there last weekend for basics, and have a rake to do my list. I walked through the yard, it's full of KK. I'm a newbie and never heard of farm force

I never heard of Farm Force either until I saw the name at TSC. The brochure states "Available only at TSC", the Farm Force line is made by Tarter Gate, which I've never heard of them either. Tarter Gate makes its own brand of 3pt equipment under the American Farmland brand, the Farm Force looks exactly the same. I did take a side by side look at the Farm Force compared to the King Kutter and the differences appear to be minor. So I am rethinking of maybe trying out the Farm Force. I can still get a King Cutter from TSC, but they are old stock and look kinda rusty. Decisions, Decisions ???

Re: 5\' or 6\' king kutter rotary mower

Hmm.....

I've never heard of Farm Force or Tarter Gate either and I haven't noticed them at the TSC.

Checked their site and the rotary cutters look okay but they are kind of light at 480lbs for a 5' model. Howse and KK are both in the 520lbs+ range and they are about as light as I would want to go in that machine.

I assume they got a contract with TSC primarily due to the other items they make....I hope KK doesn't get canned because they are good machines for the money by-and-large.

American Farmland is rebranded KK it looks like. The items are the same.

TSC has started to carry Farm Force implements in some of the Northeastern stores. Farm Force is made by Tarter Gate and the design was based off of the King Kutter line with some changes (none good). They basically cut a few corners to save some cost; you can notice it mostly in the bracing and comparing the King Kutter rotary cutter and the Farm Force side by side. King Kutter uses an Omni Gear gearbox http://www.omnigear.com/ which is also the gearbox manufacturer for Bush Hog and Woods; Farm force uses a Cheetah brand which I have never heard of. Tarter just started making the Farm Force equipment within the past year.

If you have enough hp, you will cover about 25% more acres per day with the 6 foot width.
