5' rotary mower on a 2320 ?

Is anybody running a 5' rotary cutter on a John Deere 2320 ? It has a FEL and I can ad more weight to the front if needed? The dealer said a Frontier 5' was probably too much weight but maybe a lighter unit would work. A 5' King Kutter or a Woods light duty mower? A am mowing around 10 acres of fields and would rather not use a 4' mower. I am mowing only grass no brush and there are not rocks in the field. Some of the field is steep but I have a pull behind 42" swisher trail mower behind my ATV for that allready. Thanks for the input.

I don't know if this is useful, but my LX4 is supposed to weigh 415 lbs and the LX5 489. Not much of an increase.

I see Woods make a heritage HC54 rotary cutter. 474 lbs and the same width as the MMM. I think that might be the better choice.

I bet the weight, etc is fine. Does it have enough power to turn it in the conditions you present it might be the limiting factor.

ddivinia hit it - the 2320 will lift an LX 5 pretty easily. But the PTO HP (18) is on the low end of the spec for an LX5. I suspect you'd be just fine in 'normal' conditions (grasses/weeds, small brush), especially if you go a little slower through really thick areas. However, if you need to get through thick, heavy, brush, you may experience some issues. But on the whole I think you'll be fine with the 5 footer.

I have an LX4 for my 2305 simply because it was on the used lot and was ~$900 cheaper than a new 5' hog. I've experienced no issues to make me believe the 5' model would have been too large for me...

I had a LX-4 on a 2210. It had trouble mowing my thicker pastures. Definitely clean the radiator out every couple hours.

After being on the tractor in the dealerships yard the 5' looks way to big and heavy. The 4' just barley covers the tires so I have settled on a Woods Heritage 54". It is actually a little cheaper then a RC1048 and will give me a little room to play on each side of the tractor. The dealer had to order the 54. I will have it in a few weeks and let you know how it works out. Thanks for the input.

A 2320 will operate a 5' cutter, if what one is cutting is not really heavy and thick. Size wise, it will handle it safely, but it is a bit low on the HP scale to power one through deep brush. I would go with the cross size of 54" and be happy with that.

I have a 4 footer on my 2320 and it works great. I don't think you would have issues with power with the 5 footer. Like you said though, its more of a size and clearance issue than power. With a 5 footer you are getting a lot more weight out back and might be kind of tippy on your tractor depending on what they both weigh and where the weight is located.

Yeah some of my hills are pretty steep going up them I dont think I would have much weight on the front wheels. I will have the FEL on when brush hoging the fields, plus I have a few tractor weights I can hang on the front weight bar if needed. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the advice.
