Another Conflicting piece of info (Geeze I wish JD would set the record straight)....From the JD Site:

John Deere Break-In Oil is recommended for the first 100 hours of operation in new, remanufactured, and overhauled engines.

50 Hour Engine Oil Change...what to change with...
-JD Break In Oil
-JD Plus 50 15-40

Which tractor are you asking about?

My manuals on both my 4720 and 5525 has the interval in there.

in regards to synthetic, I just run the book stuff that JD recommends. I saw an interesting piece about oils and the difference between car use and tractor. An interesting point was brought up that a tractor engine pretty much spends it's life at rated output. Cars do it in spurts, but nowhere near as much. So with that I will just run what JD recommends.

Dodge Cummins - Rotella T
Vettes - Mobil 1

My 3520...
I'm currently debating between the Rotella T Syn 5-40 and Delvac 1 (aka Mobil 1 TDT 5-40)...The Deere stuff costs the same as the M1, and is a 0-40

I currently run Mobil 1 in my truck (mostly only because its what I've used since 15k miles) and RTS in everything else.. F935, her Accord, etc...

I used to be a big rotella fan. I think it was mostly price for thier synthetic. The prices started going up and i was talking with an owner of an excavation company about using mobil 1 one syn in our cars. This man would never use another mobil product. he had it in all of his equipment and at the drain interval, pulled it out to see oil thaqt looked like black water and had the viscocity of water. i find that hard to believe, but he did say he only uses cheveron oil.

With this new DPF'ed Diesel, I can easily find Chevron Delo LE. I use it and love it. It seems thicker than rotella, but you can tell that works due to its very, very black color when it comes out. It sticks to everything, and is a royal pain to change oil in because its hard to get off stuff. But I know that is great for my motor. So all my tractors now run delo....

Try some.:D

I guess I've never seen that because even with syn's I "short change" the oils... I change the M1 in my truck every 3,500 miles... I'll change the RTS in her Accord every 3k, and the F935 gets changed every 6 mo's... Only thing about RTS is that the "Synthetic" part is highly debated...
I want to say I looked up the MSDS on some Deere Oils and they were from Chevron at the time...

I would run the John Deere stuff - especially thru the warranty period.

Black is not so bad - and not really a fault of the oil. Maybe the engine has sludge, etc. The water part I would worry about. I have never had oil come out like water.

I change my oil in my truck every 5K miles. Cars - 3K or once a year. Yeah, I know I don't drive some enough.

If you are really concerned - get an oil analysis done. John Deere has a lab that they work with or you can go with a number of different labs. it is amazing what they can pin point in an oil analysis. Bad air filter, vale seats going bad, etc...

Yes, I agree, black is not bad, infact good in most cases, but water like...

With that said, I run Mobil 1 in all my cars. I would not be affraid of Mobil products because he told me that. it was just something that happened that made me stumble on Delo.... and I am not changing from that.. All the oils we are talking about are good IMHO....

I do exactly the same. 3500 in the SUV on M1. Its never really dirty to the eye, and a lab would probably tell me it was good for another 3K. But i like it changed. Plus, i might find something else wrong under there while I am changing it.

I believe that the plus 50 is Delo. At least it was a few years ago, according to some that said they were in the know.

Agreed - if it meets the specification, it is good to go in my opinion.
