To answer your question, yes, all the test rucks were ran over the same period. I think we used 20 trucks, I'm not real sure. The Delo performed well. I don't have the figures in front of me, but overall the oil gave the best all around performance was Delvac 1300. Penzoil Supreme Duty came in a close second. We looked at the results for a variety of factors. Partical matter in the oil, this was indicitive of wear on moving parts, viscocity, chemical make up prior to use and after use of the oil, fuel mileage, and cost of the oil.

I'll throw my 2c worth in here too! I was a non believer in synthetics too, untill!!! A friened of mine who has a large landscape company told me he had switched to AMSOIL!!! In his fleet ( everything ) he told me that in a normal summer he would usually have at least 2 walkbehind mowers motors blow ( using petrolium oil and filters every 10 hours of run time ) he switched to amsoil and has not lost a motor since and now changes the oil & filter 2 times a season! he also switched to amsoil in his alchol injected pro-stock camaro and after the normal amount of runs down the 1/4 mile ( not sure how many ) but based on his expirence with petrolium oil it was time for main bearings. when they pulled the motor down the mains miced the same as and looked like new!! He now runs the whole season on the same stuff and spends less time wrenching.
Since then I have used amsoil and become a dealer and have zero complaints with the products. And I to agree with Mark wait at least 150 hrs. more wouldnt hurt if you are not working the machine very hard.

just my 2c worth Mike

I don't have any recent experience with synthetic oil. However in 1974 I bought a new Dodge van with a 318 engine. Mobil was pushing synthetic oil in Alaska. I decided to pay the outrageous price and use it in my new van. I changed to synthetic with about 2000 miles on the engine. It started using oil by 4000 miles. I took it to the local Anchorage Dodge dealer. They would not do anything on warranty because I had used synthetic oil. I kept the van for 107,000 miles it used a quart every 500 miles until I rebuilt it at 95,000 miles. I switched to Pennzoil when the dealer would not do anything and have never used synthetic since. I just don't trust non petroleum based oils. They are probably better now at least I would hope so. I just have a long memory. I have used Pennzoil in every new vehicle since that time and never had a vehicle use oil since. I also never bought another Chrysler product.

Gary, why restart such an ancient thread when there is the "King of Oil" thread under the oil forum area? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

"I have used Pennzoil in every new vehicle since that time and never had a vehicle use oil since. I also never bought another Chrysler product. "

I don't know what was wrong with your Dodge Van since my dad had one and has used Mobil 1 since new in it, it had nearly 300,000 miles when he retired it, never did use much oil and it had the 318 engine. As to Pennzoil, I would not use that crap in my lawnmower /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Every single study has shown synthetics to be superior in every way and since they meet all known API and manufacturer requirments a dealer cannot deny warrnaty coverage for having used a SUPERIOR product. Why you guys let dealers get away with blaming you for a vehicle defect is beyond me because there is simply no way the oil could have been at fault unless you mean by "using oil" it was leaking out. Yes, some older cars had seals that were not fully compatible with some synthetic oils.
Not going to start another oil thread here. Join us in the Lubricant/oil forum. Everyone wants proof, then when proof is shown and provided they dissagree with the proof. People justify what they want and some people simply do not wish to spend the extra money for a synthetic oil and I agree that in most cases it is probably uneeded to do so--but--the truth is out there believe it or not. The cold heart of science does not bend to or pay heed to antedotal evidence and urban legend. J
