Well, the 50 hour service is complete. Took me a couple hours of fiddle farting around to get it done. I used Rotella 15w-40 and Shell Donax TD trans fluid along with OEM JD filters.

The hardest part, the suction side filter was a bear. The suction screen cover and adjoining hose I had heard so much about was a piece of cake but the filter, MAN! I drove a screw driver through it in 3 places before I could get it to turn, it was just ripping the sides. I think JD needs to check a robot.

I was only able to run the tractor for about 15 minutes after completion as their were little ones in bed. The engine is a bit quieter but the amazing thing is the trans. The trans is MUCH smoother. It seems to respond quicker and the motion match is quicker and softer depending on the setting.

Prior to the service when the motion match switch was set to the long setting, to coast a bit when the peddle is released it would lock the rear tires and not hardly coast at all. There was almost no difference between the long and short settings. Now, there is a HUGE difference between the settings. It will take some getting use to but I like it. It coasts to a nice smooth stop in the long setting. The short setting seems to be a bit quicker to respond to forward - reverse - forward routines.

This is like having a new tractor all over again. The one thing that got me is I have no rockshaft filter. Is this normal? The manual shows one but there is just a solid tube there. Did JD quit using them? Anybody know why?

You should really stick with JD Hygard or Lo-Vis Hygard in the trans/hyd system. Transmission fluid is not meant to be used in a your hydraulic system.

JDTech Shell Donax TD is a trans/hyro fluid specifically for tractors. They meet the JDM JD20C requirements and have low-vis oil also. The Donax is as well regarded as the Rotella in the equipment world.

From the shell site,
Shell Donax® TD oils are premium quality fluids for use in transmissions, hydraulic systems, oil immersed brakes and other ancillary systems fitted to agricultural tractors and off-road equipment. They are exceptional universal tractor fluids specially formulated for use where a common fluid reservoir serves transmissions, final drives, and hydraulic systems.

I'm running the Amsoil synthetic hyd. fluid that meets the JD spec, it's full synthetic so it works great in the cold MI winters. My 2210's hydro works much better during a cold start (-10) than it did before.

Good to hear it fgross! JD dealers or at least the ones around here act as if their oil is the only and best oil. The thing is, I am not sure which but Chevron or Exxon bottle their oils for JD.

As long as a good quality oil, is used and it meets JD "standards" you will be as good or better.

Hello,
Funny thing about your Oil Filter . My oil was so black from blow by at 30 hours I decided to change it but.... after draining the oil, I could not get the oil filter off . Since the 2210 was not 50 hours, I figured I'll just put the new oil in (I needed the machine back in service ASAP) but I am going to try a big Channel-Lock pliers (or what ever it takes) next time. I had this happen to a Camaro I purchased years ago. Everyone is saying the new Yanmar motors have a lot of Blow-By until 100 hrs.

Someone at Deere (or Yanmar) certainly should check their robots. It's only an oil filter. Or did they loc-tite with red or blue ? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I own old Deeres (1950's) and I just now put in 10W non-detergent oil in the power steering of one of them. Back then, the power steering fluid near matched the weight of the oil I just put in. Fast forward 50 years later. NOBODY will convince me that the power steering oil JD "makes" and "recommends" today is the right oil to put in it. It's just too **** thin.

Stands to reason...as soon as my warranty expired I bought my oil elsewhere.

JD2210MAN,

When you do get the filter off, check the nut on the flange under the filter. This is the nut holding the pneumatic pressure valve the filter screws onto. Mine was loose.

It's funny to see I'm not the only one that had trouble fighting the oil filter at the 50 hr mark. I had every tool in my arsenal deployed. I too had to end up using the screw driver method. I thought I' better sit tight and re-coup my strength before attempting the transmission fluid change. God only knows what challenge awaits me there.... Good luck going foward....
