50 Hour service on my JD 2210 - Can I do it?

Not according to the owners manual. The first 50 includes doing the hydraulics. If they tell you different, have them put it in writing.

I just cut and pasted this from the online owners manual from John Deere. The last line clearly states to change it.

Break-in - After First 50 Hours
· Change engine oil and filter.

· Check alternator belt tension.

· Check radiator hoses and clamps.

· Check air filter intake hoses and clamps.

· Check transmission oil level.

· Check wheel bolt torque.

· Check for loose, missing, or damaged parts.

· Change transmission oil and filter.

My dealer (very reputable) asked me the same thing when I was getting my 50 hour supplies - "why are you changing the hydraulic fluid?". Because it says to in the manual......
Anyway, I can't see changing the filter alone - you would loose most of your fluid anyway as the filter is low on the transmission housing. You would sure have a mess on your hands trying to do a "quick change" of that filter while the oil is flowing out.
Anyway, I wouldn't put drained fluid back in my machine - you don't know what dirt etc. you are going to introduce to the system that way.
