I had my dealer do the 50 hour service last week and noticed he didn't change one of the filters. I belive it is for the trans HST. It is still the same grey as the rest of the undercarrage when the new filter is black. Can I change this filter and just replace the lost fluid?

Yes, but...

If your dealer has a package price for the 50 hr service, you should be able to point out that the filter change was omitted, though required by factory specs, and have them do it. Do you know that they changed the hydraulic fluid at all? If they did, ask them what the fluid looked like. Was it clear, cloudy/milky, were there metal particles in it? Usually these particles are trapped by the filter, so just having clear fluid is no indication that the filings aren't in there. I would probably be concerned with the dealers repair shop practices, but someone like Kubmech would be in a better position to say if I'm overreacting or not. Otherwise, get plenty of fluid and rags, and get ready to spin that filter on quickly!!! This filter is the most expensive filter. For my 2710, it is around $12. Also, it is a real PIA to remove/install. You will loose mucho fluid if your plumbing is remotely similar to mine.

Steve,

What the the service cost you? When I had my 50 hour service, the dealer did not want to change the HST fluid. I insisted that the change be done! I think your L3010 takes about 10 gallons of HST fulid. If so, that should have been about $150 alone.

Might want to double check your receipt to make sure that they did everything that is required by the manual.

If I were you I would contact the dealer and ask why the filter and fluid wasn't change, for that one important in a first time service.

If your going to change the filter you might as well drain than add new fluid..easier to keep track of between changes.

The cost of the service was 200 bucks. On the bill it shows 2 filters oil and 8 gallons of hydro. I will be speaking with my dealer later this week. I just started a new job and don't want to have to get too loud in my new office.

Steve,

Mine was over $300. E-mail me and I'll send you my phone number. I have a line by line breakdown of what was done to my L3410. You can use it as a comparison.

Steve, I agree, check your receipt. Some of the new filters are the exact same color as the original factory filters. Same gray color. As a technique, because believe it or not, I've run into this before. I write the date and the hours on the new filter just to provide the cust. with a warm fuzzy that the filter was actually changed. Granted, just because I wrote on it does'nt mean I changed it. Just like on the new tractors that come through, just because someone marked a hyd. hose as tightened, realy does'nt mean that it was. I find alot of loose fittings that were supposedly tightened at the factory and marked. I've seen some people also complain about "grease dripping off of there grease fittings". Well there's a reason for that too. In school the proper procedure for greasing is always, wipe the fitting off, then grease till you here or see grease overflow then stop. Then wipe the fitting again. Well after doing it the way I was trained a few times, and being accused of not greasing the machine "properly" I promptly learned to over-grease and leave as much slop as possible to provide "proof" that the machine was really greased. Just trying to provide some insight from my point of view. If the receipt shows that the fluid and filter were changed, I'd tend to trust it. If you still need convincing. Go to the parts counter and ask to see a new filter in the box. I have a feeling that the one you are talking about will be the same color. If not, then someone is BUSTED. The black filter you mentioned should be the engine oil filter, could also be white or gray depending on what kind of mood Kubota was in that day. Kubota filters seem to change as much as the weather. You have every right to be concerned and I'm definitley not trying to argue with your concerns. I have read here that there are some dealers that are "alot smarter" than the engineers that wrote the service intervals, and don't change the hyd. oil and filter at 50 hours.

Steve,

My receipt shows 5 filters changed at my 50 hour service:

KU3396082630 Filter, HYD SPIN-ON
KU7000074305 Filter, Oil
15521-43160 Filter, Fuel Element
TA04093230 Filter, Outer Air
9846407 Filter

In additon, I was charged for Oil, 10 gallons of Super UDT, grease and milage.

Still, give me a call so we can discuss.

How difficult is it to do the 50 hour service yourself? Is it better to have the dealer do it for warrenty reasons? Looking at the manual, it appears to be pretty easy, just open some plugs, change a few filters, I am I missing something?? I change the oil on the car all the time, is this more difficult? If so, what are the things to look for?? I have a BX 2200 with 34 hours, that 50 hour mark will be here soon….

Thanks

Tom

is this more difficult?

No sir; no harder to do; just need a much bigger drain pan, more plugs to pull, so it takes a little more time.
