50 hour service ??

Maybe it's just me, but I changed fluid/filters at 50 hrs, 150 hrs, and every 100 hrs there after. In the big picture and by comparison, fluids and filters are cheap. Stop at the dealer every so often and pick up a gallon of UDT or a quart of oil or a filter and stockpile 'em. It doesn't feel so bad spending 15-20 bucks a visit instead of getting everything all at once. Besides, how often is it you get out of the dealers door spending so little. Why spend thousands on equipment and try to chinch on the maintenance?

Dad,

My dealer also did not want to change the hydro fluid at the 50 hour mark. In fact, they insisted that they have never changed any HST fluid at the 50 hour mark.

I told them that it was my expectation that all work suggested in the manual was to be performed. They said "ok" and changed the fluid. Cost me an extra $100, but in the long run it was worth it. The HST fluid does not need to be changed again until the 400 hour mark.

Ditto on Bird's comments.

Tom,

...How difficult is it to do the 50 hour service yourself? Is it better to have the dealer do it for warrenty reasons?

I called my dealer, and they said why not save some money and do it yourself? They said they typically do the 300 hour service, but most of their customers do the 50hr. I doubt that warranty issues arise if they so freely dispense this kind of advice... but of course I don't know for sure.
