Completed the service yesterday, good opportunity to crawl around the machine and get to know it. I switched everything over to Amsoil and the whole machine, HST and engine seem to run a little quieter.

Hmm, I've run Mobil1 and wondered if Amsoil is any better?

Just my preference, won't say it's better, my Volvo calls for synthetic, so I run it in everything. As a preferred customer it is about the same as generally available synthetic oils, cost wise. I do prefer the customer Svc from Amsoil as well. I

Occasionally, someone makes the claim that their machine is "quieter".

On my GC, I did not notice any difference what so ever in noise level, or performance, when I switched to Amsoil.

As long as you are using an oil made specifically for a Diesel engine, I doubt there is much difference between the Mobil 1, and Amsoil products.

occasionally some claims are true….

for clarification my claim was made based on the fact that prior to the change when running the tractor and traveling at full throttle the HST would make quite a racket, after not so much. When the hydraulics would meet the pressure relief it screamed quite loudly, after, not so much. When stepping on the go pedal and forgetting to release the brake resulted in loud yelping, after the change not so much.

On the engine side of things it used to start with somewhat of a clunk, after the change over the start is much smoother. The engine also would rattle somewhat during warm up and now does not.

Just passing along my observations with my machine….YMMV.

Me too, When I switched to Amsoil at my 50hr, I was specifically looking for a noticeable difference, to help justify the cost.

I am very particular, if anything had changed, I would have noticed it. Nothing changed.

I can say for sure, that if you try and drive with the parking brake on more than a few times, it does get quieter, because you glaze the brake pads. Been there done that.

Noise levels ------ I just changed the the hydraulic oil and filter in my lawn mower as it too was getting quite loud . I changed it with the same exact oil as before and the noise level was much less, so much so I could hardly believe it . My point is maybe it was just time for an oil and filter change in some cases anyways ,sure was with mine . The whine all but disapeared .

What Amsoil oil did you use in your 1710?

Just pulled my 50 hr a couple of days ago. One thing that annoyed me about my GC1705 is that any oil drain pan I could find that was big enough to hold the amount of hydraulic oil being drained was too tall to fit under the drain point. So, I cut four pieces of 2 x 8 treated lumber and drove the machine up onto those. That extra 1 and 3/4 inch did the trick for clearance to get my drain pan under the drain point.
