50 hour service

   / 50 hour service #11
I just finished the 50 hr service on my bx23. It was easy and I'm sure the dealer would not have taken the care that I took. Don't get me wrong, my dealer is good, but the savings can be put towards a new implement.

The only problem I had was taking the hydro screen out. It did not want to budge, so I removed the rear wheel to get a little extra leverage and it came right off. I had to check the wheel bolt torque anyways so the extra work was not a problem. If you change the oil in you vehicles, you can easily do the 50 hr service.

Go for it. But note that if you have a BX-22 or BX-23, you will probably need a little more hydraulic fluid than the manual states. I learned that in this forum. Then when I went to the dealer to buy the fluid, I asked for 3 gallons. They didn't want to give me that much because they said I would not need it, but I insisted, and sure enough, it took more than the manual said, almost 3 gallons.

Is it recomended to replace the spark plugs at the 50 hr service? I thought the dealer said they are magnetic and will have metal shavings attached to them when I take them out, but he didn't include any plugs with my 50 hr service kit. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Where's a good place to learn about doing the 50 hr yourself? Is there a section here?

Ahhh Diesels do not have spark plugs. If perhaps you are referring to the glo plugs the answer is no they are not replaced.

Jim,

He's probably talking about a "Drain" plug & yes if there is a spark plug on the BX, someone must have done a engin transplant /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif thats my 2 cents

Your owner's manual is the best resource for correct information on the 50 hour service and all other "scheduled" services.

Detail questions can then be referred to the endless knowledge here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

See my post a few up from here for a link on how I did the 50 hour service. Also do a search you will find a lot on this topic.

I have done the 50 and 100 hr services on my B7800 with no difficulty. The owners' manual provides amply sufficient directions and doing the work was enjoyable. Also gave me an excuse to pick up a couple of additional tools. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

CFO thinks I'm nuts, but then, again, she thought so before I crawled under the Megabeast. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I just wanted to give you all a good laugh with my spark plug comment /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Shows you how green I am with my first diesel engine /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I know how to insert the key and turn the bugger on but that is where my mechanical skills end. I have 25 hrs on the machine and lots to learn, having fun though.
