I also use rotella t5 10w-30 in my massey, works fine.

Do you use it year round? Curious on tne cold starts? I use T6 5W40, or Valvoline 5W40 for my winter change, and Castrol 15W40 Semi syn for the summer.

Maybe I do not understand the terminology "backwards compatible", but I think of it as being able to use a new product in an older engine. My tractor is a 2011 and came out after the oil. And yes, my owners manual says quote "The CJ-4 engine oil is intended for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) type engines, and cannot be used in this tractor" end quote.

What spec does it call for? If it is CC, that tells you they are cutting and pasting their manuals. That spec was obsolete in the 1980's.

I just buy the Kubota oil while I'm there getting the filters...No great shakes in my opinion.

Good Info. Good Info. Looks like Castrol is out of the question then. Rotella may be my choice other than Kubota Brand.

Since mine has no EGR (L3240 thru L5040), the manual calls for oil class CF, CF-4, CG-4, CH-4 or CI-4. With an external EGR (L5240, L5740) only CF or CI-4 is to be used. Manual is dated 2009.

Kubota has conflicting info action in that my L5740 manual says not to use CJ-4 oil but their latest information is that all their engines meeting Tier 4 interim and newer require CJ-4. My Cat says use any oil except oils meeting CF-4 but all the oils that I find meeting their requirements also meet CF-4. Confusion if you take them literally.

I was just on Kubota's website and they have an update.

Interim TIER4 and newer. CJ-4 required
External EGR. CJ-4, CI-4
Non-EGR. CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4

Note: As of May 2012 this information supersedes all previous publications regarding the use of CJ-4.

I took my egr and shoved it. Woops did I say that. Yes I did disable the egr. Sure does make sense to burn exhaust. EPA come get me.:duh:
