50 hr service - bx23

I'm ready to have the 50 hr service on my bx23. In the kubota buying forum I have seen posts that show that the dealer included a "50 hr service kit" when they purchased their tractor. Does Kubota have a service kit (fluid/filters) for the first service or do you just buy everything separately?

hydro screen- remove, clean with brake cleaning fluid, dry and reinstall. Unless you break an O-ring, the screen is just reused.

It is sold "ala carte".... contact Ronnie at www.tractorsmart.com and he can fix you up with everything that you will need and ship it to you by UPS. He sells only Genuine Kubota Parts at fair prices. At the same time, you can order any other service parts that you might want to keep on hand, such as fuel filters for future use.

Myself, I have no problem with following that one, but I would also consider calling my local dealer and check his prices too.

My dealer charges the same as Tractorsmart.com and I like to send the business his way, since I want him to be there when I need him. Now if he charged more that would be a different story. But he doesn't so I buy from him. Local tax and shipping from tractorsmart work out to be about the same I think.

Tractorsmart is a good alternative to dealers whose parts departments charge more than they should though. I give tractorsmart high marks and would deal with them for everything if my dealer was not so good.

I'm with Henro on this one. I like to keep my local dealer in business so he'll be there when I need him. The last time I bought parts, I went to the Tractorsmart parts page and printed a shopping list that included prices. I took this list to my dealer. The girl behind the parts counter showed me all their prices and how they compared to Tractorsmart. Most everything was within pennies, but she gave me the lower of either price for all my parts. They were out of 2.5 gal jugs of super UDT at the time, so she sold me a 5 gal pail at cost for the inconvenience. How's that for service!

As you all know, I am in favor of always supporting the local dealer, but I never thought that it was necessary to suggest this to him. I assumed that he didn't want to go to the local dealer for some reason. To me, it is instinctive that he would have gone that route automatically, but having asked the question, was looking for an alternative... Junk.. I would not call my local dealers if it was 50% off! The dealers are arrogant and rude. I am anti-local dealer; at least in Western MA. I would and do drive over 1-hour to another dealer.

If they want my business, maybe add a little kindness and politeness. You know, the basics of retail.

I am one of the lucky ones to have a good dealer. But they are about 30 miles away in a direction I never go. I have ordered from Ronnie Bowman at Tractor Smart before and I got as good of service as you can get. I am a firm believer in supporting my local dealer but if I need something they don't have I don't hesitate to use TractorSmart. I'm in TX so there is no tax and the shipping is real cheap.

Thanks for the advise and options - seeing multiple replies to these posts and having more info and points of view makes decisions easier.

My local dealer is 40 miles away but he has been good in the past (thats why I bought the tractor from him). I was going to have him do the service but by the time you factor in the home service call ($100) and parts/labor, I decided I would dot it myself. I have seen many discussions on this service and maintaining the tractor is part of the fun of owning one.

Luckily I live in tax free New Hampshire so there is no direct tax on the parts. I agree with buying local - but who doesn't like to save money. I generally take the easiest route rather than the cheapest though. I'll probably wake up some morning and decide that it's a good day to do the service and just buy the parts at the dealer.

the 50 hour service is very easy. I did it myself. The hardest part is the hydro fluid. It is not hard but make sure yourdrain pan can hold the fluid coming out. Mine was too small and had hydro fluid all over....looked real nice with hydro fluid going all over like a lake!
