I recently completed the 50 hr service on my L3130HST and noticed very small, very fine shavings on the bottom of the Hydro fluid catch pan. Some say this is normal, does anyone on TBN have an opinion or experience the same thing?

Having just completed the 50 hours service on my CT225, and having found a small amount of very fine metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug, my opinion is that this is normal. The whole point of doing a 50 hour service when the fluid is still fairly new, is to get the last dregs of the production castings, etc. cleaned out of the system.

That is the reason of the fifty hour service to remove anything that might have been left in the tractor's fluid areas that might have been left from assembly. Now if you have that at the next servicing I'd be more worried although it should be cleared by then.

I do worry that you only have fifty hours on a tractor when it is the age that it is. Your fuel could break down in the fuel system and by the book you are also past the change time just for the age of the tractor. In the cold climates I stress that the transmission oil be changed out at least every two years regardless of hours.

Do you run your tractor often, or does it get limited use but for extended times of an hour or more?

Thanks for the information. Similar to your descriptions above, this was very fine material that would be very difiicult to feel if you were rubbing it with your fingertips.

Since it is homeowner owned and not getting commercial use it doesn't get ran like it should. There are times when I use it for shorter durations than desirable but this is unavoidable. I always make sure to warm it up properly in cold temps before using it and buy fuel in small amounts knowing it would take too long to use a full tank.

Thanks for the info!
