I'm getting ready to do my 50 hr service and I've got a few questions. My tractor is a Jinma 224 with a Y380 engine. When I changed fluids at 10 hrs, I replaced the the engine oil with the same amount that drained out, about 6 qts. I believe this is incorrect as it's above the upper mark on the dip stick but the mark is so faint I wasn't sure. I think I remember somebody posting the correct amount as being 4 qts. Which is it? Also, when re-torquing the headbolts, is this done stone cold or warm, hot? What about the rockers? Thanks in advance.

Hey Joe,

I've also got a Jinma 224, with the Y380T engine. I don't remember exactly how many quarts that it takes, but I think, that it is around 4 quarts. You don't want to be running your engine with too much oil, as it will create too much oil pressure and will come out somewhere. You can use a file to make the marks on the dipstick more visible, but clean the loose metal off of the dipstick, before reinserting into the oil sump.

I've still got to retorqe my headbolts also, and I intend to do it after the tractor sits overnight cold. I also got the torque pattern from somewhere online. It may have been at JohnS, website. He is also one of the moderators at the NYCTO FORUM.

We had an extensive discussion about the valve adjustment at the NYCTO Forum, in the Y380T engine section.

Hi Joe. The correct amount of 15-40W diesel engine oil is 4 quarts with a new filter. Fill the filter first with oil before screwing it on. Saves a little wear on the engine while building pressure.

My manual recommends torquing the cylinder head at 100 hours and it's done on a cold engine. Same with the rocker arm clearance. Do you need the rocker clearance specs, etc.?
