50 hrs: Do I need to change the HST fluid?

All right already. I went ahead and changed it. Replaced with JD fluid, figuring I will not have to do it again for several years.

The service tech supplied me with the low viscosity fluid. I suppose that is OK for my climate (Pacific NW, west side). This was not the deep red color of the fluid that came from the factory. Suppose it won't hurt when it mixes with the fluid left over in my loader cylinders?

Whoever designed the suction screen cover with that short little hose should be shot. What a PITA.

Here in Virginia, they recommend the low vis hydraulic fluid. Think it depends on how cold it gets in the winter rather than how warm in the summer. Cold high vis fluid could cause problems in the winter.

You should change the hydraulic filter at the recommended interval whether you change the fluid or not. On my 4010, I have to pretty much change the fluid because the filter goes right into the middle of the fluid chamber. Think your 2305 filter may be external.

Low vis fluid was absolutly the correct fluid

The message seems pretty loud and clear - do it now. You won't regret it and any wee repair would cost a whole lot more than $100.

As others have said, the Low Viscosity Hy-Gard was the correct fluid and it won't harm anything by mixing with the red fluid from the factory. Think of it as a 5w-40 and how much better that type of oil flows in a diesel engine in the winter compared to a 15w-40.

The fluid is not the problem. It'll probably last for 1,000 hours or so. The problem is metal particles from the manufacture/assembly process.

You could collect the fluid and very slowly add it back to your diesel fuel, probably about a quart every 15 gallons. 'Twould take a while to use it up. Filter it first.

Drain plugs used to be magnetic to collect those metal particles, not that it guarantees no issues owing to them.
