No, a cordwood saw would be more dangerous, but not one in a hundred tractor guys have one. Seems like everyone has a PHD.

Mega, I have a international rotary cutter 5' and I will say it is a very stout piece of equipment, so if international made yours its probably a pretty good piece of equipment.. And what a deal you got!! I found mine in the local classifieds for $200 w/two augers 12" & 24"(new)

Every once in awhile you get a deal... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif makes it a little more fun /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I bought an old PHD from the cemetery where my dad works. I hooked it up and drilled some holes, then took it off and leaned it up against one of the posts in my barn. A couple days later when I went back out there I found a big puddle of gear oil waiting for me.

I got a good deal on the PHD, but could have done without the oil all over the floor.

Yeah, you gotta watch who you buy from!

Actually, he claims it was sitting unused in a barn for the 30 years that he's been there. The gear oil on the floor had been added by me.

The rear blade he threw in the deal had been used slightly more recently and leaked significantly less /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ken do you know what size of snapring it takes? Mine is one of the International brands, I bought it a few weeks ago. The snapring didn't come with it.

They gave me the wrong PTO shaft for it, and I took it back and the guy gave me a different one. I don't think this shaft actually goes to the PHD, but it works with it. The boot on the PHD end of the PTO shaft rubs against the PHD guard and the boot won't stay where it belongs. I'm going to trim the boot down to see if that helps it.

The PHD really works well, though; despite the PTO shaft mixup.

Thanks for mentioning the snap ring. I have not really had time to mess with this much, but I plan to disassemble everything and paint it. I also have some extra PTO guard parts lying around that will work on it.
