500 Foot Trench

Have any of you used a rear blade to do any trenching? I had to put in a few hundred feet of temporary water line last year and I used my rear blade, 2 passes to get 18" deep. Laid the line and back filled, all of it was pretty easy. I suppose that if you had very many rocks that it would be much more difficult though.

I'd hate to try and do that in our Claycrete dirt here.

We wanted our pond to aerate but didnt want the big electric bill that fallows it My wife found a windmill online for aboud $850. We had about a 24 foot diameter hole in the ice this past winter when we had a cold spell. It was cold enough to freeze Lake Erie over which is about 20 miles from me, so it was cold out. And the best thing was we have NO electric bill !!!! V

Brian, that rear blade work looks great and it did a fine job for you. However, I have so many roots and buried tree parts on my place that I am running a sprinkler system on, that I would tear up a nice piece of equipment using it that way. I've bent the frame (not the shank) on a subsoiler (Howse) and have broken two middlebuster furrows. In hind sight I would have been better off with this particular project to have rented a trencher.

Yeah, I guess that the ground needs to be just right to be able to trench with a blade. I'm lucky I guess, I have only a few roots and or rocks that I ever have to deal with. Although while working on a new drive I ruined my rear blade.:( But that is what happens when you use equipment that is not matched properly, as I have done more than once.

tell me more...point me to the windmill you used. Pictures are expecially appreciated. What aerator did you buy?

For an even smoother trench job, rent one of these ....

Rocksaw International Inc. :: THE LEADER IN ROCK TRENCHING TECHNOLOGY

When I was training as a lineman, we saw pictures of a guy who was trenching alone and got a basketball size rock stuck in a big Vermeer trencher. He did not disengage the hydraulics as he pried it loose with a digging bar. When his boss showed up a couple hours later, he saw the trencher moving happily along but could not find the driver. 500' behind the trencher, he found catchers mitt sized chunks of the driver mixed in with the spoil. They were graphic enough to make us respect these things. With the right chains, you should see even smaller trenchers rip through asphalt and concrete.
