Just thought I would post what I have recently paid for filters and fluid for my 5234D.

CUB723-0405, Filter, Oil-Hydraulic System $16.60
BS-492932S, Filter, Hydro Pump $9.25
CUB737-3120 Fluid, Drive System $7.49 (per quart)
BS-820314 Filter, Oil $13.65 (engine)

I don't think these prices are outrageous. Yes, an oil filter for my truck is cheaper than an oil filter for my tractor. But I don't think the Cub prices and what my dealer charges for service is out of line. If I want a good dealer to be in business years from now he must make a profit to do so. He doesn't operate out of a pole barn with a dirt floor. If he makes a few more dollars on fluids and filters it's ok with me.

I have not replaced the air cleaner element (CUB751-3194) yet, it's a 300 hour item, so I don't know first hand what that will cost.

How do these prices compare to what any of you have paid?

That works out to be $7.95 per qt or a few "happy meals" from that golden arches place....funny everytime I eat their happy meal, I wasnt feeling too happy afterwards /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think the "Happy" means that the meal left you as quickly as you ate it. At least this is a problem that I have seen with some local McD's in Worcester. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My CUB 7275 uses a Fram PH7317 @ $4.00

Well, here's from my recent records on three different tractors and their hydraulic oil prices. Keep in mind the 5000 series takes 20 quarts when serviced.

Cub Cadet, Hytrans, $1.35 Qt

New Holland hydraulic oil, $1.54 Qt

Cub Cadet, Drive System Plus, $7.91 Qt

So I guess if I stop at the gas station and the gas has bumped up to $12.12 a gallon, (a comparable increase), I should just happily hand over the money because I want them to be in business next week and they need to make a profit.

Hytrans and Direct System plus is not a direct comparison. You should have just bought a Murray at Wal Mart if you are going to complain about spending a few $ for the right fluids.

How do you know they are not a direct comparison, give me the technical data that that differentiates them.

Why don't you replace the Drive System Plus with Hytrans in your 5252 and I'm sure you'll have your answer. I'm sure that your dealer will give you some "technical data" as to why the Hytrans didn't work out so well.

If you want cheap replacement fluids, filters and parts just get yourself that Murray at Wal-Mart and you can buy all the cheap stuff you want for it and feel real good about yourself and all the money you saved.

I just bought filters for 10/25 hr. first change. Appalled!

The engine oil filter has OEM number "LFS 706" printed on it and that sounds familiar (I remember numbers). Turns out to be the same filter my Jap 'cycle uses and the Fram PH-6018 will replace it at 1/3 of my USD 15.00 price. If ya' don't like Fram, just go to a m'cycle dealer and get the OEM cheaper there. Suzuki 800cc V-twin filter will do ya'. (Probably a LOT of other bikes to.)

The original hydro filter had "Made in U.S.A." and two groups of numbers printed on it. I'll find the Fleet Guard or other U.S. X-ref for that too or I'll be d*mn*d - USD 18.99 is highway robbery.

Having established that the Cub markup is close to 200% OVER RETAIL, I'm on a mission...

You dont have to look too hard - there is a large post in the Cub cadet thread regarding alternate filters for Cub 2000,3000, and some 5000 models....However the synthetic blend oil is a lot more difficult to find an alternate source....or better yet an alternate that I feel comfortable with on my 3204 series...you are being raked over the coals with those prices, so I would find another supplier.....There is always the internet
