Mahindra 5005DI
Just wondering how many of this model Mahindra are out there. This was my first new tractor (broke a family tradition of JD /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif). But once Dad finally started talking to me again, he has had to admit its not a bad piece of equipment. But I don't see many (any?) posts here about this model. I think it was the last model that Mahindra based on the old International 243/245. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes your right there is not a lot of post on the older models> I also have a 5005DI that was one of the last made it has the flat deck instead of the hump on the floor. Very well made tractor. Only problem encountered was a broken hazard switch. I may have caused the problem because of its location. I may have hit it with my knee. Its fixed and nothing else occured. I know of two other owners near me and they have no complants.

Hey,

I have a 1997 Mahindra 485 DI. My dealer told me it is almost identical to the 5005. I bought the tractor 3rd hand from the dealer. The tractor had 879 hrs when I got it in February 05'. I now have 1087.3 hours and counting with ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. The tractor paint, body, etc. is in immaculate shape. In many years to come, my next tractor will be a Mahindra, no doubt in my mind.

Now, I do find it hard for my dealer (Singleton Sales & Service in Franklinton, LA) to get the correct manuals for my tractor, even though I haven't needed them yet. For example, they tried to sell me a operator's manual for a 5005DI. I wouldn't buy it. I DID buy a chassis manual that says: "Mahindra Diesel Tractors" that I regret buying. I think it is like a "common" Mahindra manual in general. NOT specifically for my 485 DI. It don't say 485 on or in the manual anywhere. They said they are having trouble finding the correct ones.
This kind of irritates me.

That's kind of discouraging about the manuals. I usually like to have a shop manual for vehicle type stuff, but I haven't tried yet to locate these for my 5005. I did get a cd w/an mpeg file on it that gave a run down of maintenance items. It was the dealer copy and they let me burn a copy of it for myself. The owner's manual is a little unclear on a few items but I think they may have been "lost in translation". /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I have been pretty impressed w/ it though. I did have to put a hydraulic pump on it this summer. I piece of the rubber coupling in the return line came loose and clogged the return line. When the pump went it took out most of the accessory drive gears on the front of the motor. But, even with that large repair, I am still way ahead of what a comparable green tractor would have cost at the time.
I really like the simplicitiy of the thing. No electronics to go out. But the Bush Hog loader does cover up a lot of stuff that would otherwise be easy to get to for service.

I have owned a 5005di since 2010 and it has been the absolute best piece of equipment I have ever owned. I purchased it 2nd hand from dealer with 300 hours on it and it now has 615. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I can promise my next tractor will be Mahindra. Only issue that I have is same as everybody else I have no manual and have so far been unable to locate one.
