Kubota Grand L5030HSTC
I'm working on computing total weight and front/rear weight dirtribution for my 5030 HSTC. The Kubota manual says it weighs 4090lbs and the plate under the seat says the reference weight is 4638 lbs. I haven't taken it to a scale.

What is "reference weight" and why is it different from what the manual says? Which is closer to "right"?

I think I need to compute the total weight as follows... I have included the weights I have found and their sources... any further input greatly appreciated.

?? LBS L2240 ROUND BACK SKID STEER 72" HEAVY DUTY BUCKET

?? LBS QUICK ATTACH, L2232A

1157 LBS, LA 853 FEL FRAME

4090 LBS LA 5030 4WD HSTC tractor. Includes cabin. Anybody know actual front/rear weight distribution?

1030 lbs liquid filled rear 17.5-24 R4 tires, 515 lbs each from manual

I am using these sites for weight distribution recommendations:

Tractorsmart
and
Missouri ag guides

Thanks!

The Kubota website lists the 5030 HST weight without the cab as 4090 pounds. I'm guessing that the cab adds 548 pounds.

BillG_in_TX, thanks for the reply.

I should have been more clear in my description... my manual says that weight for a 5030 HSTC, 4WD, cabin included = 4090. However, the weight plate under the driver's seat says reference weight = 4638.

I'm wondering if this is an ESTIMATE of operating weight? 4090 + 200 operator + 348 for fuel, onboard tools, etc.? That's my current theory. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

John,

I understood your question. Here's one for you. What does your manual say is the weight of a 5030 HST? Since the website indicates the 5030 HST weight as 4090, I'm wondering if your manual doesn't have a mistake in it.

You may need to weight /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif for a dealer to chime in - or call yours.

Texas,

Your best bet is to take it to a scale. Anything else is just a guess. $10 and 5 min will give you the answer. Most major truck stops have a CAT scale, get some seat time, drive over and check it out.

Oh, my guess is that the bucket is 550# and the quick connect is 165#. If you take off the bucket and put one end on a floor jack and the other on a bathroom scale and adjust the heights to level the bucket, you will read out 1/2 the bucket weight. It HAS to be level.

BillG_in_TX, I got back to a table in my manual and here are the details for each 5030 model specifically with 4WD: GST WITH rops = 3705 lbs, HST with ROPS = 3750 lbs, HSTC with cab = 4090 lbs.

So, best I can tell, each model is specifically itemized with a different and logically greater weight.

Looks like I may need to take it, as suggested to a heavy scale to get a more detailed answer. Will take a while to make that happen and will post results when I do.

Still, am curious about the meaning of "reference weight." /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Kubota changed from shipping weight to curb weight sometime ago where the difference is the weight of the rims and tires... Could that change anyhting?

Hmmm... Well, if 4090 lbs from the manual was the bare HSTC tractor, attachments or front/rear rims/tires and 4638lbs were the same tractor with front and rear rims and tires, airfilled, then that would be 4638-4090 = 548 lbs for tims and tires, or 548/2= 274 for one front and one rear rim and tire. Firestone web site shows one 17.5L-24 R4 rear tire weighs 160 lbs, leaving 114 lbs for rear rim, front rim and tire. The Titan site lists the 4123C8 front tire at 48 lbs, leaving 66 lbs for both rims...don't think that's enough....

darn /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif seemed for a moment there that the mystery was solved...

Soooo... mystery continues....sooooo thought I'd call my dealer.

Dealer salesman says that in 25 years nobody has asked this question. BUT, there is a Kubota B and L Series SPECIALIST in Torrance, Ca. that is very helpful, John Ryan. Called 1-310-370-3370 and was directed to Josh. HINT... this number may be useful to some of y'all one of these days.

Josh was very pleasant and sought to help. His first impression, which he was unable to confirm after seeking assistance for 5 minutes, was that the plate under the seat was indicating the weight that the ROPS was qualified for, not tractor weight.

His data indicated the following:

4090 lbs for 5030 4wd hstc = operating weight, tires and rims, no implements. This matches my manual.

1186 lbs shipping wt for LA 853 including front grill guard, without Quick Attach, dry, no hyd. fluid in hoses, cylinders. My manual says 1157 lbs so this is close.

50 lbs approximately for the Quick Attach... his recollection... couldn't locate actual wt at the moment.

396 lbs shipping wt for 72# heavy duty round back QA bucket. My manual says 322 lbs... kinda close

Sooo... I think this study has gone as far as it can go... until I get to a big scale and weigh MY tractor with MY attachments, tires, etc....

Thanks to y'all for the ideas!

Hmm that would make sense for the ROPS rating as I read somewhere the cab tractors aren't supposed to have loaded tires.

Well, I hadn't heard that.... IF that's true, which is not discussed in the manuals which DO say that it is OK to load tires... then I would have the choice of not loading tires thus loosing 1030 total lbs... 515 per rear tire according to the manual...haven't weighed mine...and staying within protection limits of the cab/rops. Or, keeping the weight and being WELL outside the ROPS parameters.

So, again faced with the burning question.... to tip or to not tip, and how much/often.

Well, think I'll keep the weight and take my chaances and try very hard to not test the CAB ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
