2013 john deere 5075E and others
I’ve made several reviews of this tractor in the 7-8 years I’ve owned it if you can look back. Just a quick review; it’s a 2013 model I bought new in 2014, open station, 2 wheel drive, 9x3 transmission, no DEF or regenerate. I had dealer add front weight bracket and 5 suitcase weights, an extra set of remotes, and fluid in tires. After a break in period it dynoed at the dealer at 73-74 pto hp. On a certified scale with a full tank of fuel and me on it it weighed 7100lb. It has done everything I have asked up until now. Recently while bush hogging she started choking out, rattling, loosing power and finally died. I opened water trap on the bottom of the fuel filter. Fuel was very discolored(black) then ran clear(red, I use off road fuel). Tractor restarted easy and I continued. Loss of power continued but was more common going up hill. Back to shop, changed fuel filter and drained about a quart out tractor fuel tank. I saw some specks of oil(I use a oil barrel as fuel storage) but nothing to shut the tractor down. Headed to hayfield, same issue. Back to shop, thought rubber return fuel and fuel supply hose may have deteriorated after 800hrs causing a restriction. Replaced both, no improvement. My brother found a video showing a “screen” in the bottom of the fuel tank in line with the fuel supply line. Handy, to remove and clean the screen you must drain the fuel tank. Handy. I drained the tank, removed the screen and it was plugged solid, nearly. I went to plan “B”. I removed the screen completely, installed a brass shutoff and a diesel rated inline filter. Running like new at this point. No where could I find the “screen” mentioned in the manual much less servicing it.

Good job finding the screen. One of the tricks my dealer told me to do is blow air through the fuel lines with an air compressor. On older machines with metal tanks, he also suggested raising the height of the line so its not so close to the bottom of the tank. I added a cheap, plastic Fram inline fuel filter too. I replace it every year in the Spring when I do all my get ready for the new year stuff.

Have you bought a tech manual for it? If not it is well worth the money spent. I had a 5310, somewhat of a predeccessor of your machine and that manual was worth it's weight times 2. I bought the full set when I purchased my new machine.

black stuff may indicate algae, a biocide in the tank and your fuel storage barrel probably wouldn't hurt.

Thanks guys for your rely. I hope this thread finds you both well. I have not purchased a tech manual for the tractor. I only have the owners/operator manual. I just hope there are no more “hidden” features to the tractor. If had known it was there it would have gotten cleaned/checked. Of course we need to be vigilant in keeping the fuel clean but many times it sneaks in there.

Thanks jonsstihl for your reply. I don’t think algae is the issue but I do plan to use some additive next time I fill my tank. The majority of the foreign matter on the screen looked/felt like soft black rubber. Very small pieces, slivers, beads. It took nearly a whole can of brake cleaner and several minutes with a air hose to get it clean. Source? Return fuel hose breakdown? Something in the pump/hoses of my fuel barrel breakdown? Bad fuel from supplier?

On my 6415 I had issues with the fuel lines. They started to weep every place they had to stretch to fit a steel fitting. The quick fix was to cut an inch off the line. What I cut off was soft. Not much extra line for cutting shorter. The long term fix was new fuel lines. I used Gates, not JD line.

did the strainer come out from inside the tank or were you able to access it from outside.

Yes, it can be/was removed from the outside. I removed it, cleaned it and wrapped it up and stored it away. Replaced with all new rubber fuel lines, a brass shut off and a inline filter.

Experiencing same exact problem here with 2018 5075E. Will be looking to replace fuel lines, install external filter w/shutoff valve, remove internal screen. Will reply back with results.
