5083e - wont start-gelled fuel.

Suit yourself, but If me, I'd be removing all traces of bad fuel and mixed fuel ASAP (including draining and cleaning the fuel tank), and start with fresh, new fuel without additives. That is after you consult with your Deere dealer and get the filters changed out. Give yourself as much break as possible here. Just sayin... if it were me. ;)
Best advice right here! Get rid of that junk fuel from the tractor, rinse tank with some fresh diesel and install new filters. It appears that you are causing yourself issues by trying to use that left over fuel... Don't let one mistake lead to another. (0:

The 5083E in JDparts.com shows a fuel cooler system that has an AE29052 filter, part #26.
News to me that they cool the fuel. But if there is such a system, just adds to the chore of cleaning lines and filters. Pic of the jdparts.com

Yeah this is essentially what I've done so far already. Due to the holiday today I wasn't able to get a new filter yet. Now that I've added another 25-30 gallons to my "junk diesel" barrel, anyone have any suggestions on what to do with it other than burn piles? Wish there was a way to reclaim some of it to do something more productive but after today's experience I doubt it.

it seems to me that if I loosen the supply line at the pump I should be able to clear everything up to that point using the priming pump. That's a lot of pumping by hand but that seems to be the best way to do it rather than cranking the starter. Then once that's clear I can do the same by loosening the injectors. I'll see what the Deere guys say tomorrow.

Just left the dealer with a new filter (and a spare). Discussed my situation with the service manager. He said on these newer tractors a surprisingly small amount if water will stall them out. He agreed that everything I'm doing so far is correct. I'll replace the filter after work and continue with my purging. Also they confirmed there's just one fuel filter.

I guess the two fuel filters must be an "M" thing. :D

Let us know how it works out.

Thanks. I'm going to go try to work on it after dinner. I've been up since 330. It's been a long day. I'm going to start by taking off the old filter and seeing what comes out when I push the primer pump. Then place the new filter full of new diesel. Then prime until there's fresh fuel coming out of the fuel line at the pump. Will see.

Success! Well, sort of.

Removed old filter. Primed until sure getting clean diesel from tank. Placed new filter. Bled air on that side. Opened line at pump. Primed and primed and primed until clean diesel flowing. Closed that and opened drain on the fuel pump. Primed and primed again. Closed that. Cranked for 20 seconds and it started! Ran for about ten minutes. Until I drove around in the field. Died.

Repeated last part of the above process until clean diesel again. Cranked for 10 seconds. Started. Ran for another 10 minutes until I drove around. Died.

Do these tanks have baffles? I figure there's some low pocket in the tank were the water is getting picked up but not draining. Fortunately the second time it died it is on a slight incline with the tank drain at the low end.

I ran out of daylight so I had to leave it be. But I'm encouraged! Thanks for all the help. I'm going to keep at it until all the water is gone.

Does anyone know if there's a gasket between the fuel filter and water bowl? I can't remember and wonder if I lost it.

On the bright side I got that "88.6 hour replace the fuel filter routine maintenance" out of the way.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with a 55 gallon plastic barrel with about 1/2 a gallon of gas, 50 gallons of diesel (half of which is a year old), and an unknown quantity if water mixed in?
