Just finishing up my 50 hr service, and just noticed I miss counted how many gallons of udt I needed. I do have almost 3 quarts left in a container that I bought to re-fill after a leak.. The dealer is closed until Wednesday :( .

In short...I am lacking around a 1/2 gallon of kubota-UDT. Would it hurt any if I bought a gallon of hydro from the hardware store and mix it with the kubota-UDT?

Thanks...

Depending on how much it holds I wouldn't even sweat being a half gallon low. That is considering that it is only that low. I'd just use it then top it off when I had the chance. Also... you never put in as much as it calls for. If, for example, it says 7 gal. capacity.... you will probably only put back 6 1/2 gal. I'm just making up numbers here but I'm sure you get the point.

Thanks, DmansPadge.

I maybe a little more short than a 1/2 gallon. After letting it run for a minute or two, the little round glass gauge no longer showed any fluid.

I got a little over 5 and 1/2 gallons back in, the book calls for 6.2 gallons....I guess those 2 filters suck up a pretty good bit.

Excellent point.

When I replaced the UDT at 50 hours on my L3240, The manual said 11 gals but I only drained roughly 9+. And 10 gals topped it up to the full mark even after replacing both filters :)

So you may not really be short of UDT at all. Just fill it up till you reach the top line on the dip stick or run out of fresh UDT. If it is above the lower line you're OK til you can get more UDT.

Edit: Never mind. It sounds like you already did this and were still a little short.

I probably would try to add some as soon as possible. It sounds like it will be a little too low. I was wondering what would happen if you over filled. I did this not too long ago and ended up sucking some out with a little hand pump. How much would too full hurt it?

What did you plan on doing between now and Wed?

FWIW Most engines and trannies can actually run OK with a little less than the lower mark on the dip stick IF you are on level ground (to avoid loss of fluid pickup by the pump) and don't push them too hard (to avoid heat build up).

I had planned on clearing the outer perimeter of my fencing....dragging down no bigger than 1" 1-1/4" brush with the fel and box blade, then going back around it with the hog. No heavy fel work, but a decent 3-4hr run.

Lesson learned...check list, then check the list again..

I have mixed Kubota UDT with compatable UDT hydraulic oil before and no leaks, mis behaving HST, catastrophic failures or any other problems.

I wouldn't have a problem mixing them.

I had heard that Kubota UDT is multi-sourced - that means they buy from the cheapest bulk supplier and have it put into thier containers and labled as "kubota". Mixing in a gal is no big deal - after all you have more than a gal of old fluid in the FEL cylinders. But, don't use hydraulic fluid, use trans-hydraulic fluid that is meeting the UDT spec.
