5103 starting issues

I pulled my 2005 5103 out the barn the other day to get my mower out. I climbed back on a little later and tried to start it. all it would do is click. i kept trying and finally it spun over and started. i know on older tractors, like my 8N, it was a sign of a defective solenoid, but with all the new safety requirements for these newer tractors, could it be a neutral safety switch? The tractor only has 160 hours on it. Any help is appreciated.

Did you check the battery? 160 hours is nothing......

the battery checked ok, though it will be four years old in august. it clicks a few times then will fire right up.

I'd clean the battery terminals & ground point & see if that does it.

Checked ok as far as voltage? Did you check the voltage with a load on the battery? How did you check the battery?

My 5203 has gone through the factory battery and it is a 2005.

My old JD 750 started doing the same thing about a week ago. Since I didn't have the time nor inclination to trouble shoot it, I jump started it. Two days later it did the same thing so I twisted the negative terminal a tad.... nothing.... then I twisted the positive terminal a tad and it fired right up.... so I disconnected the positive terminal and cleaned it. It was heavily oxidized between the post and the terminal.

i tested the battery w/ a volt meter. it had 12.9 volts off and 14.3 running. the terminals looked fine, they get cleaned everytime i service the tractor every spring. when the tractor decides to crank, it spins over fine, not like it has a weak battery.
